piston knock after rescent rebuild?
i bought my '93 wrx in january this year .Had awesome fun till august this year while doing a ton forty the enevitable happend ,the dreadded det!
got rebuilt api and not sure they used new parts.but i put it in anyway .I left the plugs out to build up oil pressure .put the plugs in and on first turn of the key she busrt into life.everything seemed okay for the first few days until i noticed a light knock when cold just after the throttle past idle then slowly quietened as revs increased then dissapears as temps rise.anyone any ideas on the used parts theory or whether they have mismatched the rings.the engine was rebuilt for just short of two grand ,which i'm told was too cheap!

Your beef is with API who have a fantastic reputation round here. Speak to them and i'm sure that if they are at any fault - they will sort it. Hang around here long enough and i'm sure there will be plenty of people who will vouch for API and the quality of their work.

obviously he wants an unbiased opinion. But you are right Brun, API will most likely be able to sort it out. Price is good, not too cheap, and API know their stuff.

With sommat as serious as knocks in the engine department i would seriously go straight back to where the work was done regardless as to wether it was API or Fred's grease shop down the road. No one is gonna be able to diagnose a knock over the internet. Sorry if i sound a touch short, but try and see what i'm saying. I'm sure API David would welcome you back with open arms to help you out

Have never had anything to do with him but he stands out as a very helpfull chap on Scoobynet.
I didn't know wether you knew he hangs out on SN or not so i thought i'd let you know. Techno Pete has been seen here but not all that often from what i can tell

TeknoPete is up here.. He's been very quiet!!
He's currently internet-less due to moving house at the moment.
I would recommend going back to whoever you got the engine work from (APi in this case) and explain the problems and concerns you are having with them until you are satisfied.
Cheers,
Grant

api are very well respected around here.
of course there is always a chance that something has gone amiss but you would do yourself the most benefit speaking to david directly.

Thanks for the advice gentlemen .I've just been abit concerned about it all ,but wasn't really sure of how to approach API about it.After all how do i get them to inspect it?I can't really stick the phone up to the engine and let them hear it,and i don't want waste their time if it's nothing!

Hi guys, Just found this and I'm confused. I have no idea who cassiusclay is and do not recall a conversation with anyone recently who has had an engine that isn't running right where I haven't dealt with it or offered advice immediately.
We are humans and can drop clangers sometimes, however after 500+ rebuilds, clangers have just reached double figures in the month of October, and a couple of those were very dubious.
Anyway, If cassius has a problem ring me! I can't do anything by telepathy and it is rather worrying that Scoobynet gets to hear before I do.
Somebody let me know whats going on please.
