Running in a new MY05 WRX
Am about to order a new Scooby. Any hints/tips about running it in. All I know is that the first 1000 miles are going to feel very, very long!

Keep to what the book says for the first 1000 miles, under 4k, after your first oil change, slowly add the revs, say at 1100 miles your up to 4.5k, 1200, 5k, 1300 5.5k etc, this will be kinder to your engine and bed her in better
Tony
PS, dont put fully synthetic in until you have covered atleast 5k miles (if you want to put fully synth in)

Why do you say that mate??
I thought that once you had run the car in, the first oil change should be fully synth.. as should every one after that..
Cheers,

Its due to the oil.....
Fully synth protects (literally), unfortunately your engine still wears in for quite a few k miles, this is why you dont all fully synth oil until around 5k.

Defo agree on the synthetic oil comment, had a MY02 WRX from new and that was still loosening up nicely at around 8000 miles. My preference is not to consider a switch to full synthetic until the 10,000 mile mark. The fully synthetic stuff is too slippery to allow it to properly bed in....

I'm tempted to stick with a semi-synthetic to 10k miles too. My last car loosened up considerably after its Prodrive Live day and again after its first trip to the Isle of Man - both of which were with plenty more than 10k miles on the clock. It was also still loosening up 9000 miles after its rebuild.

Said it before and i'll say it again....... My dealer said when i picked up my MY04 WRX, Just drive the damn thing don't redline it and try not to go over four and a half every gear change !
His theory, The best second hand cars he sells are the ex-demonstrators that come back to the show room, They drive like a scoob should do ! Oil change at 600 miles and then thrashed at every test drive !
He did point out that i have a 3 year warranty so why be worried he certainly was'nt ! And yes this is a main dealer ! I hav'nt taken all his advice litteraly Cos at the end of the day it's my 20k sat in the garage but it does give some confidence.
