Question JDM MY95/96 WRX Wagon with auto transmission-torque?

I own a JDM MY95/96 WRX Wagon with auto transmission.

Only mod I am aware of is a fat backbox. (owned car since imported in August so don't know if it's been remapped)

Model code is GF8C58P, SIDC FAQ gives 220PS output.

Has anyone got rolling road figures for this model in standard form?

It feels like it has got more than the quoted output of power but could that be down to increased torque for the wagon or is the quoted figure true?

Anyone any idea?

The 'Wagon doesnt have more torque; it less actually, 280 Nm as opposed to 304 Nm/309 Nm for a '93/'94 saloon. There are two factors which make the torgue feel fatter; firstly he 'Wagon has a smaller faster spooling TD04 turbo, the saloon has the larger TD05. More importantly the 'Wagon is mapped differently; the 280 Nm of torque peaks at 3500 Rpm whereas peak torque on a TD05 equipped saloon is at 5000 Rpm; the lower the torque is the fatter it feels and the more noticable it is.

Saloon; November 1994

Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 260 ps (191.23 kw) / 6500 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 31.5 kg*m (308.91 N*m) / 5000 rpm
Power density 4.73

'Wagon: October 1993

Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 220 ps (161.81 kw) / 6000 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 28.5 kg*m (279.49 N*m) / 3500 rpm
Power density 5.82

Cool Secret NOS button

Simon,
Thank you for your reply, very useful info.
I suppose that the 'fatter' torque combined with the smooth and fast auto gear changes could explain the tremendous 'pushed back into your seat' feeling I get on kickdown from 30 mph upwards. My young son reckons that I have a secret NOS button that I press when I kickdown !!!
If you've never driven an auto Wagon, you should try one...you might be surprised.

Pleasure G. Ive driven a few actually, after Ive imported them. Theyre hard to sell but if you can get a prospective buyer to sit in them then the deal is done. They cost ****-all to buy in Japanese auctions too and theyve never been thrapped.....

Seeing as I have a 'Wagon, maybe I should have chosen 'GF8' instead?

Simon
