Unhappy Smokey Engine!!

I've recently imported an Impreza WRX (1994) from Japan. I drove it for the first time today and when hot found there was a load of smoke coming from under the bonnet. I took it to a friends garage and we found that oil was leaking from the rocker cover gaskets at each end of the engine and dripping onto the exhausts hence the smoke when hot.

My question is, is this a common problem and where would you recommend to go to have it fixed. I live in Southampton and my friend is a bit hesistant to do the work. I just want to get it sorted as I've only driven the car twice!! Cheers for any advice as it will be gratefully received!

Rocker cover gaskets are a fairly common fault and it's not that hard a job to do. Why is your friend 'a bit hesistant to do the work'?

Again, I think this is a fairly common problem and probably relatively cheap to fix and doesn't necessarily indicate that there are other more serious problems lurking.

You got an oil leek bud somewhere, nothing drastic. As said in previouas posts

Rocker cover gasket. check the rocker cover bolts on either side as well. Only tighten oppasites like when u change wheel. It worked 4 me

Crank seal gasket £6 plus time to do it.

Nothing major thou mt8. Best thing get it on a ramp and give it a good clean with degreaser. Easier to find leak. Watch you oil level untill u get it done

My mate reckoned that it needed a specialist to do it but I'll keep on at him. Cheers for the information chaps, I was starting to get a bit worried but you have put me at ease!!
