Question MY03 decat without remap?

Hi,

On a EU wrx MY03 will there be any risk to the engine if i was to fit a decat downpipe and centre decat pipe without a remap? I understand that i will not get full gains without the remap, but i like to know if it is safe to run.

Also is there any performance gains in the removal of the resonated pipe or is just purely for a louder soundtrack?

Cheers

None what so ever, i ran my MY01 for over a year with a full de-cat and it was great compared to standard.

Remember a re-map will release more BHP but it isnt required if you just like the extra grunt gained from the de-cat and also want to save cash.

The car will sound how you imagine it should with the full de-cat (Amazing)

from my own expereince once i had decatted my car it was massively overfuelling and running to rich, this caused det when the engine was under load. had to pussyfoot round in it till the remap was done.

So either different cars behave in different ways or people dont realise there cars are affected after decatting them.

i would at least get it checked over by someone with det cans just to be sure, and just be prepared to either replace the cats or get a remap if your car isnt running properly.

I'm with pbee on this one, get yourself a boost guage and knocklink and you will see the results for yourself. The car will overboost and you'll get some nice christmas tree lights on your knocklink, looks nice but kills your engine

Get yourself a re-map. No point in spending money to get performance gains if they aren't safe and it will be cheaper than getting a new engine

I decatted my downpipe and had terrible running problems.

Turned out it was DET causeing the ecu all sorts of issues.

Knocklink & Boost gauge minimum..... and the with money spent on those you are halfway to the cost of a re-map... where the mapper would ensure safe fuelling/boost.

Guess the safer option is to save up and get the whole lot done in 1 go.

I can only talk of the MY01 WRX - the decat left a huge hole in the mid range - it felt like it really stuttered around 3k revs before pulling much stronger to the red line.

I ran a MY01 with a full decat on for a year. No issues and well worth doing.
