It's just British roads that are appalling... discuss.
I was without the Scoob for a couple of days last week while it had a major service. To get from A to B I had my brother's '99 Nissan Primera 1.6 sx. Now, within a few hundred yards my thoughts were, in order:
Utterly gutless;
Gearbox was like stirring a pudding;
Steering was so vague I might as well be in a pedalo;
Seats hideously uncomfortable;
Ride wallowy.
My wife's comment was "You've got to admit it's a far more comfortable ride"
The thing is, I don't! I hardly notice the jiggle of the scoob except on the ride through my own village. So, the solution is simple.... get these roads fixed before Mrs po natters me into buying a comfortable-riding vehicle!!
(Don't send me back t't' dark place)

I own both cars.
Of course the Primera is going to feel gutless, what do you expect from a 1.6 in a ton & a half of car lol
However I disagree completely with the rest ......
I'd say the P11 Primera is one of the best handling fwd chassis's ever made. Turn in is sharp, feel is good & can easily run away from more powerful cars thru the twisty stuff.
Cant fault the gearbox either, direct & smooth, far superior to any euro built mid sized equivalent.
The seats have 4 different adjustments, I spend 80 miles every day in my trusty old steed & find it far more comfortable than the Impreza on long journeys.
I'm really suprised at your experience !?

Only ever driven p11 Sports Primera - as above, you could chuck that thing round sharp bends and large roundabouts at stupidly insane speeds and the thing would just cling on...get it right and there's a lovely bit of rear end drift too Wasn't a soft ride, very jiggly IMO.
Perhaps the 1.6 version had rice pudding filled shock absorbers instead?

I'm not sure what you mean by "turn in". I'm not a "driver" in the skilled sense of the word. But the steering didn't seem to respond at all until I was near the quarter past position and every time the car encountered anything like a corner it felt like it was going to wallow into the hedge!
And why give it the designation "SX"... Promising a lot more than it's delivering, there.

Dunno about the series 2 Primera but I had use of a series 1 1.6 for a while.
OK, it was never going to rip the tarmac up but for a 1.6 litre family saloon it went really well.
