Default Someone tell me the worst please

I have a MY96WRX which has just started to give a problem when selecting 2nd gear.

What is the best thing to do?
Recon box?
remove and rebuild box?

Oh and any ideas on cost of this.

Advise anyone please

Thank you.

Try changing the oil first. Something like Redline shockproof lightweight, or Silkolene Syntrans. Fixed a crunching 4th on mine, box has now been fine for the last 6k miles.

Cheapest first then if that doesn't work you can look at a re-build or recon. Not sure which is cheapest/best sorry. But your looking about £300-400 for the box and then labour on top.

Dave.

Sorry for delay in getting back to this, trouble logging in.
The symptons are that recently i have started getting a notchy click as i select 2nd gear, its not bad yet.
Im just wondering if its a sign that its going to get worse.

split pin on the end of the box may have sheared/worn away and allowed the lock nut to loosen hence the gear cog may have moved by the tinyest margin and cause this noise.
