What colour is my Scooby?
Ive just bought a '99 Impreza WRX STi Type-R Version 6. It is a deep, light blue metallic colour with hints of silver. It is not Sonic Blue as my mates V5 Type-R is this colour and mine ia alot lighter. Looking at the Vin Plate, it says its is Colour No: 792 (Royal Silver). It is definately not silver and I have never seen this colour before on a Scooby. It has no signs of being resprayed eithier. The log book states that its blue.
Can anybody shed any light in this?

A top quality respray, but a bit of a problem.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

The Subaru garage here said that he has come across Scoobys in unusual colours before as in Japan they can be ordered in any colour from the factory.
Anybody shed any light on this?
I would post up a pic, but I cant on this site.

On the other hand, If you have a car resprayed in a different colour, then this has to be changed on the reg forms. and if it was a complete bare shell respray, then you wont find any traces of the old colour.

CyprusScooby,
Also saw the car for sale when i was over there this summer.
It is the one from the dealer in larnaca isn't it?
Did notice the colour although similar to sonic blue wasn't excatly the same.
Also notice that the seats weren't the normal Type R seat which are usually red.
Did get to look underneath it and looks like a few mods have been done as the exhaust manifold has been wrapped, so could have other mods.
Looked to be a sound car though as i used to own a type r myself which i bought from the subaru dealer near the roundabout on the same road.
Colour could just be that subaru switched paint supplier and there is a slight variation or could be WR Blue (not sure if its the same colour as Sonic Blue).
Anyway dont worry to much about it, looked like a good motor in good condition even like the alloys which are the orginals resprayed.
Good luck with it.
Mel.

The engine bay and wheel well were the same colour as the exterior. Except a wee bit duller.
Yes, the car is in Larnaca.
I was told by the garage that it was a V5, but when it was sent to the Subaru garage, they told me it was a V6! I checked the VIN plate and it is a V6, made in Nov. '99.
I was told by the Subaru garage that its standard.
MelTypeR - what do you mean the exhaust is wrapped? Is this good?
I thought the seats were only red in the Type-R Limited?
And does the WRX sticker look to be too high on the bootlid?
Im just worried as I dont want to have bought a respray.
The Garage told me the paint no was:792 which is apparently Royal Silver. Although I have yet to check this myself. I think the garage got confused over the phn as they had another silver Scooby in the garage at the same time.
Mel, post a pic of your Scooby up. It would be good to get in touch with you for any Type-R advice.
Thanks.

Just checked, paint code 792 is royal silver.
And the WRX does look a little high, but if it has been done, it looks like a professional job.

CyprusScooby,
I have now sold my Type R, which is now owned by another member on here.
Have the exhaust manifold wrapped is sort of a good thing but is usually done in line with other mods, maybe at one time it had an uprated tubro?
The seat should definently be red AFAIK only on the version 6 LTD they were blue.
As for the sticker being a bit high could just that a previous owner didn't like them and took it off and another owner like them and put them back on.
They weren't to me liking and had them removed just leaving the type r badge under the drivers rear light.
End of the day even if it has been resprayed you have bought yourself a fantastic car and at that price you cant complain at all, the spray job looks good (ifs its had one).
Just stop picking faults on it and enjoy it.
