Golf V6 4 Motion & Impreza
#2
Is the 4Motion true permanent four wheel drive? I seem to recall hearing that VW's system was front-drive until it looses grip and transfers some power to the rear axle... a bit like the Vauxhall Calibra 4x4.

According to EVO, the 4Motion has the same drivetrain as the TT (and S3 I think) .. it has a 'Haldex' coupling ahead of the rear differential and only sends torque to the rear wheels when it needs to
I'm sure this is supposed to be an almost instantaneous transfer though.
Will be a FWD most of the time though .. don't know enough to know what advantages/disadvantages this has though ?
Any ideas .. ?

Oh, and Dippy I'm sure you'll agree there is more to life than 0-62 .. otherwise we'd all be driving Chevrolet Camaro Z28's
