Is the 4Motion true permanent four wheel drive? I seem to recall hearing that VW's system was front-drive until it looses grip and transfers some power to the rear axle... a bit like the Vauxhall Calibra 4x4.

According to EVO, the 4Motion has the same drivetrain as the TT (and S3 I think) .. it has a 'Haldex' coupling ahead of the rear differential and only sends torque to the rear wheels when it needs to http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
I'm sure this is supposed to be an almost instantaneous transfer though. Will be a FWD most of the time though .. don't know enough to know what advantages/disadvantages this has though ? Any ideas .. ? Doofus Oh, and Dippy I'm sure you'll agree there is more to life than 0-62 .. otherwise we'd all be driving Chevrolet Camaro Z28's http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif [This message has been edited by Doofus (edited 26-07-2000).] |
