This might seem a daft question but how are you lot buying MY05 (manufacture year 2005) Scoobies when clearly it's 2004.

I think you're being misled

the model year comes out in the september or october? of the year before.

The Japan MY starts 01/08 of each year, hence my MY97 P reg is actually November 1996, but could have been July 1997.

Agreed Spen.. Just wondering how there can even be a MY05 when it's clearly not '05!

At least the UK get next years car towards the end of the previous year.

Mad as ar$es in the states IIRC. Any car bought in the year is normally given next years MY???

I'd agree but not everybody knows the transition years (apart from sad anorak types, myself included) therefore the general descriptions you mention can be useful.
Apart from "bugeye" I prefer the name "f(cuking)ugly"
