I really hope these photos r not the real thing. It looks bloody horrible. If they are then subaru need a wake up call (biggtime). I think i might buy that RB5 after all. If any one know any different then please tell, cos its worrying me.

The out of focus pictures on the Dutch guy's site look nothing like the Autocar shots on the link above. So, the following springs to mind...and it is early for me
1.Are Subaru running two models - one for the standard car and one for the 280bhp version.
2.Are they trying to "sell us a dummy" by letting pictures be taken of "a Scooby" be published in Autocar - the security around the "official" launch was absolute according to those people who went.
3.Are the Dutch pictures the "real" thing as the car is being launched in America soon and they needed to tone the body work done even more for the yanks.
I'm sure the discussion for this will go on for quite a while, but if the Dutch pics are genuine them I'll stick with my '98 car.
Yex - sloping off for a coffee now

I think there is a good chance those photos are real as there was a link on here last week to an American website which had a report from some journalists who had been invited to see the car. They admitted they were not allowed to say anything about the new car or take any photographs but at the end of the report they said that the new car was going to be "controversial".
Also it looks VERY similar to the sketches on Steve Breen's website even down to the slightly flaired wheel arches.

My name in lights again!
I've reposted the same pictures on my site and also have the Ring test pics on there too. Flicking between the camouflaged car and the "real" pics you can see where the real car is hidden by the addon plastic.
More to the point I sent the same pics to the source who leaked me the hand sketches ages ago and they have confirmed that this is the real deal.

I think Steve has a point ..
If you flick between the 2 images there is a a similarity, the h/lamps are most probably covers with the "focused beam" lump in 'em and the rear lamps look similar.
Living so close to MIRA we see all sorts of cars with plastic wide arches and covered lights with only cirles showing and painted like chess boards just to make them blend in with their surroundings
Me thinks we will have to wait and see .....

You can't really tell much from those photos, I can't see how you can say it looks crap from those! the nose looks like a Corolla, but the nose of the current car on it's own isn't very pretty at all. It's only when you look at he car as a whole that it appeals (or not).
Anyway, if it's crap, you can buy one of these instead...........
Old, but fun!
Geezer
Oh, and not an RS!

I tend to aggree with yex, about the security around the new car in japan. They did say the official release would be in August,so how the hell are people talking pictures of the so-called new subaru?
PS. Steven Breen, Nice site. I always check in to see of anything new. Keep up the good work. One question. How reliable are your sources?

Hi,
The pictures are real, I've got them right in front of me. Not kidding, but no need for you to believe me. You will see them soon!
I think it is a big improvement: the car looks much more muscular and modern.

This has got to be a purposely leaked picture to make sure all the old models are sold off ?
Subaru may be too worried that potential buyers are holding on for the new model and therefore sales are falling.
I suppose we don't buy our Scoobies on looks alone, but no one's gonna want to buy THAT, surely !

Lets face it take of the rear spoiler, ignore the bonnet vents etc and the current scoob is not exactly a well styled car.
Add to that fact that a good many Jap cars are not attractive e.g. Nissan Cedric (+ look at the retro look horrors on Subaru's jap website) and perhaps the state of the next scooby is no surprise.
I will wait and see.

Trust me chaps, these piccis are real.
Does anybody else think the enormous flared arches are pretty similar to a Skyline? When you see the whole picci I think you'll agree even more.
The amount of lines along the side of the car is unreal, but I too am unsure about the headlights.
It also appears to have mini batmobile wings each side of the bootlid as well. Hmmmm....
