yeah, i know they're not sensible, i know there expensive, i know the insurance costs a fortune, i know they drink fuel, i know i should drive a nissan micra... but i don't and i love it. sometime this place is so pessimistic it should be called scoobynot.

1) Was this survey conducted before the dealerships significantly cut their parts charges?
2) I think the data is also misleading. If they have taken the "arithmetic mean" costs then this measure is not not representative of average costs at all. What people have to bear in mind is that for most individuals, parts will not be so horrendous: dodgy Maf here, Lamba sensor there. However, for a few unfortunate individuals, when their Scoobies do go wrong -and they were amoung the best for frequency of breakdowns btw- they go wrong big time eg. usually engine or gearbox or clutch. These will not be cheap and the cost of them drags the "mean" figure up. Exclude the outliers, and the figure would be rather lower.
3) The figures also give no insight as to whether the cars had been properly maintained and driven with the right mchanical sympathy, which is particularly imp for this genre of car and also whether they had been modified- some individuals don't report changes to the engine management system, for example.
Considering the performance on offer, I don't think the maintenence is unreasonable at all.
