Default '01 WRX to '04 WRX-PPP style power ?

Never had the PPP fitted to our '01 WRX as I was totally unimpressed with the PPP demo car I tried.
However, I have tried a PPP equipped '04 car and I loved it, (I know it gives a lot more than bigeyed-PPP cars)

I wondered if there was any accepted non-Prodrive way of achieving this sort of power, including the torquey style of delivery assuming that there is no Prodrive way of getting that out of an 01 WRX (?)

(Needs to remain MOT friendly)

I expect there are a million threads on this, but I can't seem to search at the moment

I just had my car done at Xtreme. 03 WRX

I already had a H&S backbox, but you will need a back box..

I then had the air filter changed for a free flow green filter.

Then a H&S cat replacement down pipe.

I got an ECU TEK3 remap later that day by Pat. (not sure what models you can get this done on?)

The total cost of all the mods is probably around £500 less than PPP.

Power output is probably a little more than the PPP.

If you are out of warranty then its a good option.

I will be posting the results of my RR session next week.

Thanks
BtK

You may well have tried an early version of the 01MY WRX PPP. We have updated the package over the years and it is now almost identical to the 03/04MY package, in fact the hardware is identical. The ECU spec is slightly different but it is asking it to do the same thing as 03/04MY.

Regards

Hi Mike,

As the owner of an 01 PPP car. What option can you offer myself to swap my piggyback 01 PPP for the newer Ecutek version?

Thanks,

Ian

Hello Mike,

A couple of questions for you (only had the car since march so I new to this)

I have been on the Subaru site several times in last month to see if I could get PPP on my car (MY01 WRX) but they don't list it. Is this upgrade still supported by Subaru or have I missed the boat on this one? (I am thinking of my warranty).

Do I buy this direct through yourselves or by visiting my local dealer. I asked the other day but they were not sure (I called at a bad time and got the receptionist!).

Cheers

Ubik, In answer to your questions as I understand it, Subaru still offer the PPP for the bugeye and you would order it through your local dealer like any other part or accessory.

It sounds like it is almost identical to the blobeye PPP now which is great as the piggyback chip was never quite as good.

Without wanting to upset anyone at prodrive, the ecutek 3 remap does offer better value for money and more power, so if warranty isnt an issue then this comes highly recommended and can be done by companies such as TSL.

However, also bear in mind if you want to trade your car in at a subaru dealer in the future then they are going to be more interested if you have official subaru upgrades rather than third party upgrades.

Thanks for the Reply Beefy!

I have been recommended the EcuTek3 rather than the prodrive as I am told its better performance and cheaper. Its something I want to do next year, the thing I like about the prodrive package is that its supported by Subaru and my warranty remains intact.

Peace of mind V Cost & Performance.

Food for thought.

Cheers
David

Thanks Mike, yes it was a very early version I tried, I was amazed when I tried the 04 car with it, just perfect for me.
Oh dear....
