Default What's needed to get a Uk Turbo to WRX power

Hi All,

Whats involved in getting a UK spec Turbo up to the power of a standrad WRX import ?

How much does it usually cost ?

I know there'll be insurnace implications, but that's something I'll have to live with.

Cheers

Thumbs up

There's more than one way to go about it.

Try: full TSL decat with group N back box (about £800)
Link ECU remapped by BRD £1800 approx
Induction kit (safe if used with above)
and on mine : STi intercooler, about £250 with fittings.

Runs about 300bhp on a cool day:

Before going this route you DEFO need to look at the front brakes.
Mine runs Godspeed Brembos with 325mm discs.

For which you need bigger wheels, 17" at least. Mine has OE '04 WRX wheels in anthracite/graphite?

There's really no limit to what you can spend, but that's a start:

Forgot to say, L&V insurance are VERY good on mods so long as yopu tell 'em:

Depends on which MY it is, if you have an MY00 for instance, its more than equivelant in power to a pre 98 wrx wagon (220ps v 215bhp), or anything between 92 and 94 in saloon guise, 240ps v 215bhp, note that all the ps quotes are on 100 ron fuel, the 215bhp will be on 95 ron fuel. Now the later WRX's had 280ps on 100 ron fuel, a uk car, year depending (97-00 run a td04 turbo which is small but has the advantage of quicker spool up, previous to that uk cars ran a td05 turbo which is a little larger )
But as stated, an exhaust, filter (be warned on MY99/00 cars this can damage your engine if the maf fails due to contamination, unless its a dry filter, ie an STI panel filter), but id check your insurance, you would be quite amazed how much they charge you for an exhaust (plus personally id do the brakes first, definately if you have a 98 and below!!)

Mmmmm....................something to think about.

Not as cheap as I was lead to believe.

Was thinking of getting a UK turbo, as I'm not havin much luck with getting a WRX on my measley sub £5k budget.

Looks like I'll have to wait a little longer.

Cheers

There's someone selling an L reg WRX TypeRA in one of the for sale forums for just over £5k. That'd do you wouldn't it?

My cousins got one, it rocks. I've got a P1 and i'm still a bit jealous!

If you are an old cvnt like me then you can get insured with LV no problem and they dont charge extra for mods, mine was a UK turbo running 208 bhp then I put an HKS super drager full de cat on, then a K&N 57i induction kit and a HKS EVC V boost controler running a safe 1.27 bar and hey presto I have 280 BHP bought all this second hand except the induction kit and all told cost me 650 quid to get P1 power.
