Arrow WRX PPP Question

first post so please forgive me if this has already been discussed elsewhere!

I am just about to purchase my first scooby after years of wanting one, the wife is not keen, but hey it's me that is going to thrash it 99% of the time, so I win.

I have enough money in my budget to get a new WRX 4dr saloon with approximately £1500 surplus and I was thinking of getting the prodrive performance pack added for £1600. Do people agree this is the best way to spend my money or do you have some alternative suggestions?

I await your reposonse.

Regards

The only way to go if you want more power and keep your warranty mate!

There are cheaper alternatives...but normally the warranty is void!

Staying the warranty route.
I would suggest getting the PPP springs and geometry done.
Much cheaper and much more performance per £ IMHO

I must keep within the warranty route and the work done by Subaru as this will be a company lease car.

I agree with gutter rat on this one.

Arguably, I haven't driven a PPP'd wrx, but as far as I'm concerned, there's plenty grunt for almost all occassions you'd come across on the road (bar the traffic light grand prix, perhaps, although even a standard wrx should be able to hold their own against most cars).

The springs on the other hand, are (in my opinion) too soft. The car wallows quite a bit in corners and there is some understeer. Getting the geometry done together with springs should rectify this problem somewhat.

The springs are prodrive ones, and the geometry settings are just that, geometry settings, so your warranty will still be intact with this route also.

Although, having said the above about understeer, I find it's a lot down to driving technique... When I first got the car it was understeer city everywhere, but now that i've gotten used to it it doesn't understeer as much.

Keep your money in you pocket and contract hire it- then you are depreciation proof!

Speak to Stan Palmers for a cracking deal- they do a new one for me every two years- I'd never consider buying one again.

Thumbs up

Definitley ppp it best thing i ever did.
Its supposed to improve ahem "fuel economy" something about more torque and less gear changing
Wouldnt know about that as changing down to overtake is about the most addictive thing you can do .

but seriously it does make it a much better motorway cruiser as some of those TDI's are pretty good these days and my old MY99 always had to change down to get by them if they were persistent

how about springs & geometry, ARB & droplinks then PPP - best of all worlds if you think a standard car is drivable then wait until you've driven a PPP version once you've allowed it to bed in...

then brakes to bring you back to earth

OK for warranty friendly, its the only choice you've got for a power hike (Ecutek and decat for non-warrantied car) and AFAIR you can't get ARB and droplinks from Subaru but the difference is unbelievable. Standard car is asmathic (sp?) and wallowy if you get back in one...

Springs are a must before PPP I reckon. Car is not as good with standard springs. Plenty power if driven on normal roads mainly and more than enough for an average driver, which means it is more than enough for me and 99% of the population.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Springs might be a little on the soft side but it is very comfortable.

Plus the Prodrive exhaust sounds GORGEOUS!

can someone tell me if the prodrive exhaust is just a backbox...or does it replace the centre section too?

On the wrx it's just the back box.
The sports cat is if you have an STi.

Then cat is changed for a high performance cat (got the old one sitting in my garage with the back-box and the plastic boost pipe under the intercooler that gets replaced). PPP definately worth it, I haggled lots for my WRX SL and basically got my PPP and a spring kit thrown for free, all I had to do was fit the springs and get the geometry done

No - the third cat in the short section after the downpipe is removed with a straight through section.
Its only the STi that gets a sports cat.

This is what you get for WRX PPP

Plus a bigger restrictor on the wastegate hose

so is the WRX PPP worth spending £1,600 of your hard earned money onto a new 04 or 05 model?
