Selling a scooby is hard!
Hi,
Selling my scooby as got to be one of the hardest things ever never had this much trouble with previous cars. I am not asking a crazy price the car is mint but not even getting any calls about it. I think if someone actually came and saw it then it would go but it's taking longer than I expected.
Hope it goes soon I want to buy my new car

I think the main problem is that most people seem to buy from dealers, not privately, particularly the newer models.
Everyone I know has bought from dealers, extra piece of mind, but very expensive!

the thing is alot of people see them as being over priced don`t get me wrong i`ve had subarus for a long time now but people i have spoke to that have never owned a scooby say that they can buy for the same money alot newer ford for example!!
generally when you have had a scooby you will allways have one like you say once people come around and test drive they will buy!! its just getting them around!!
oh yeah the biggest thing people are put off with is the dreeded insurance!!

Its not just that I think people who are looking for a scoob also have a car to sell and struggle so they go to a dealer and get the best they can afford with a finance pakage to suit. Peeps dont seem to like private buying these days

Im looking at buying a scoob (wrx bugeye) and here are the reason why i am not buying private:
1) Very little come back if the thing buggers up a month down the line
2)You usually get some kind of warranty from the dealer
3) Handing over that much cash/bankers to an individual make me very wary.
4)If i had problems with a car i bought from a garage i know that 1month down the line they will probably be open/contactable if i have any probs/queries, where as a private seller could just ignore your calls/not answre the door
5)I have nearly been stung b4 with a pristine clio 16valve back in 1998.
I very nearly bought it and it turned out it was stolen and had the id from a scrapped car swapped over on to it.
The only types of cars i would buy private are the ones priced from £100-£3000
Just my opinon on the matter

A lot of people dont understand...That performance cars "Usualy" hold their values more than the everyday runabout....Look at the price of Evo`s,Skylines,Cosworths eta eta....The problem it seems-Is some people are desperate to sell,And let them go for a pittance....This is seen in the books/papers,And is expected then to be the norm....Its becouse of this "OUR" prices are diving.....I feel the demand is still quite high...But,As everyone tries,To get whatever cars for the lowest price...If everyone holds to their values..the cars WILL still hold excellent values also i feel,So it seems we are strangling ourselves then....?????,But what do you do,If the seller is desperate,And thinking he will not get another oppertunity again....????????????

The trouble with most Jap cars, scoobys in particular is the abundant cheap supply of imports.
Prices in Japan are very low and will keep getting lower, this will then affect the UK prices and make UK spec car prices drop lower than they otherwise should/would.
Look at the price of an Escort Cosworth, say a 95 plate compared to a 95 WRX, same performance, e.t.c, practically the same car but a MASSIVE price difference.
I put this mainly down to the fact the amount of Escort Cossies available are the ones in this country and that's it, no more supply.

1. majority of non subaru dealers warenties are worthless
2. you can get any car RAC / AA inspected
3. If I buy privately then I expect it to be good deal cheaper
4. Would look for 100% standard car, mods just increase the risk of something being wrong with the car/show alot more chance the car has been driven very hard.
5. low miles rule
6. lots of people have a car to trade in and cant be bothered with the agro of selling it themselves.
7. Colour, we are all indiviuals but some colours are just harder to sell.
8. model differences, for example I would rather spend more for a my99 with the facelift front end and brakes than a 98.
9. the "majority" of people dont like imported cars.
10. If the price is right it will sell.
just my worthless views
