WR1 RUNNING IN
Still waiting to pick up new one hopefully next week, just wondered what is the recommended running in RPM/Speed i have been told max 3000 rpm/40 mph or 4000 rpm/60 mph or drive how you like as long as the turbo does not cut in!
Anyone actually know what Subaru suggest or indeed the best way to drive the first 1000k?
Cheers.

For a standard WRX its max 4000rpm for first 1000 miles
(Thats over 100mph in 5th)
Can see the 3000rpm but deffo not the 40 or 60mph
I also feel that you shouldn't be too soft with it or it'll get used to it and it'll be a shock when you redline it. But don't go over 4000rpm still.
I will be slowly increasing power after its had its 1000 mile service
Dunno if WR1 is the same........

First Port of call mate is www.wr1oc.co.uk
its the new WR1 Owners club where you will find all fellow WR1 owners.
I ran mine in like this, first 400 miles never over 4000 RPM, after 400 miles i slowly increased revs, Not booting it in 4th, just reving freely slowly getting higher.
So by the time 1000 miles was hit after the service it was bussines as Usual
We have many members registered thier numbers on the above site. Loads of stuff going on in the future.

I've treated my WR1 the same as my 98, P1 and STi8, in that I've kept it mainly below 4000 rpm for the first 1000 miles, and made sure I haven't laboured the engine.
For my last couple of cars I've also taken advice offered on here, which was that you should avoid constant speeds. Consequently, if you do any long motorway journeys try to vary the speed and gearing ie 10 mins at 70 in 6th, then the same in 5th, then 80 in 5th, then in 6th. As I remember it (please correct me if I'm wrong) this avoids polishing the bores during the running in period. Of course it may be complete tripe, but it made m-way journeys less boring whilst running in.
Don't forget that you should also gradually increase the maximum rpm after your first service, by 500-1000rpm per 1000 miles.
I'm sure some will say they've thrashed it from day one, but then they probably have not intention of keeping the car for that long, so it'll be someone else's problem.
All just IMHO of course.

500 - 1000rpm per 1000 miles after 1000 miles service!!!!
That means 7000 rpm by 3000 miles or if 500 rpm increments 6000 miles !!!!!!!!!! That CAN'T be right no its can't it really can't i can;t wait that LOOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGGGG

I think the 500 rpm is per 100 miles, though by 1500 miles the car should be sufficiently run in though the performance may still be lacking due to the length of time these cars take to run in (you should start to notice decent performance by 5k miles)
