Default towing a trailer

Hello chaps, need a bit of advice.
Starting up my own company and need a van but can't bare to get rid of the turbo wagon, but thought about getting a box trailer, as it would solve the problem and keep me very happy.
Would like to know if it would cause many problems with the scooby, like knackering out the axles, diff, gearbox by constantly towing, payload weight up to 1000 kgs.
If anyone does already tow, how much difference is there in fuel economy?
Many thanks
Dane
