Angry My MY04's taken away on breakdown truck !

Just wanted to vent my anger somewhere.......My beloved 4 month old MY04 WRX got recovered from my house today cos of a duff gearbox.

Took it in for a service on Friday, mentioned the box sounded a bit noisy. They took one look at it and said it needed a rebuild and to book it in at a later date. Anyway had not even made it home before I could not select fourt or fifth without a lot of graunching and excess effort. Got home in the end, called garage and they said it needed to come in today. By this morning I had no reverse or first. They recovered the car and Subaru assist have lent me a crappy Ford Focus.

Anyone else had gearbox problems or am I just unlucky ?

ive had gearbox troubles but its never got to the stage of being undrivable.....after 3 repairs they gave me a completely new box. Chances are this is probably what will happen to you given the severity of the problem.

Tell me, what started it off?? with mine the problem was the synchro between 3rd and 4th. Apparently its a fault in the casting of the gearbox....(kinda worrying as that suggests it may happen again!)

Still, you got a focus.....i got a 1.0 yaris, think yourself lucky!

good luck with it.

P.S. my car is an 03, so has the same box as yours.

Cheers mate, to be honest I really dont think mine has been right since new, it has always made a whining noise in the lower gears and has slowly got worse ( I did start a thread on this before but others said it sounded normal ) It has been crunching quite a lot going into second but I just put it down to my driving.

To be fair the service from my dealer ( CVC Cardiff ) has been great, keeping me informed and checking I had got home OK, but I do get the feeling something must have happened to make it so much worse after the service.

They also said I would not get a new gearbox, only a rebuild.

Sorry to hear this sort of spoils that new car feeling....

Just curious to hear you mention a rebuild ?
Can you not go for a completely brand new gearbox ?
That would in this situation be my preferance.

I had not really given it much thought untill now, but yes I would much rather a complete new box. I think a phone call to the garage in the morning may be neede Although of course they can only do what IM authorise. And presumably they will always go for the cheapest option.

I bought the Scoob because of the famed reliabilty, after years of poor cars and bad service. The service is good but am starting to think the car maybe no better than any other.

I had mine from Keith Price's and had problems with the spoiler not fitting at all well... so on many occasions I had a boot full of water They were great up there with me... first I had a direct replacment and that was as ill fitting as the first next we agreed on one of the new STI spoilers only to find that you need the boot with all the holes in to put it on ..... I only have the 4 standard one's in mine...... finally we agreed on the Prodrive UK300 spoiler

Basicaly I learnt that the warranty side of things are not dealt with at the local dealer level... the dealer talks to warranty section then talks to you, I believe that the dealers have a budget to keep to with warranty issues ( may be someone will be able to shed some more light on that side of things ) So the dealer may go for the best budget option for there on books ??

Personaly I would insist on new.... you could call another dealer and ask them what they could do for you ? It's another option to consider ?

What I found was when I had the first replacment spoiler sent down and they fitted it I just said NO I will not exept that and after showing them the reasons they supported me ( Price's ) and continued to deal with the warranty section.

Basicaly push for what you want and don't worry about contacting another dealer to ask them what they would do for you.... after all it's a Subaru warranty not a dealer one.

Good Luck......... I hope my ramblings help you.

I take it you have a Focus or have some connection with them then .

Yes it works, but thats about all, IMO it is very poor ( and not just in comparison to the Scoob )

My old Audi A3 had to have a new gearbox fitted but touch wood the scoobies have always been good.

Oh and that was a common fault on that model 'box, so it's not just subaru who have problems.
