Question Underseal

Just reading through some other threads. Curious to know if Imports are undersealed or not?

My new age jdm wrx was not undersealed but the supplying dealer did it as part of the deal,I also sprayed 1/2 gallon of wax oil under her myself just for good measure.

No mate, there not undersealed. I'm not sure about the newer cars though. It's a good idea to have it done, the salt on the roads over here in winter can do a fare bit of damage.

Should one be concerned about the lack of underseal or are paint processes now days good enough. Mind you there is a definate shortage of paint on bits of my current UK Scooby!

I was told by an import dealer that without underseal, a scooby would have holes in it after 3 or so winters. It's just what i heard and not from experience.

I got my Legacy professionally undersealed even if it is get it checked out...it may need some more better pay now than getting loads of rust and holes.

What does it cost to get it professionally done and does that include all the nooks and crannies and not just the visible surfaces?
Are UK cars undersealed before or after export?

I recently bought a MY04 wagon from motorpoint (Maltese car), and I banked on needing to get undersealed. I took it along to my local body shop and the chap put it on the ramps and pointed out that it was already done.. so no need!

Not sure on the cost but I expect about £100 should cover it ,best to do it yourself and get it into all those nooks and crannies, went mad with mine and done the inner wings ,chassis rails the whole shooting match ,get the wax oil nice and warm and it will seap into all the joints and seams as well.best to give the underside a good wash down first if the cars not from new.
Its a ****ty job but well worth it if your going to keep the car for a while.

I recently had mine wax oiled a Scooby Clinic, they did a great job. The only problem is it stinks for weeks afterwards. I can dig out the invoice if anyone needs an approximate price?

My Cyprus import '01 is most deff undersealed, GINTO just take a look under, they use a black wax so it will be pretty obvious. I think the non undersealing of UK spec cars from Malta/Cyprus is a bit of a Scoobymyth (sure someone correct me if I'm wrong!) no underseal applies to JDM imports.

Its definitely a scooby myth as has already been pointed out. If you know what you are looking for then get under it and see. If not, ask the professionals if it needs done or not... about £100 pound should cover the bill if it doesneeds done, but it will probably be ok.
