Problem with an unhelpfull Garage - Advice needed
I recently had a Flamekit fitted to my fully de-catted classic.
Although the unit is producing a spark it doesn't produce any flames at all.
I went back and the guy in charge was pretty unhelpful, he suggested I ran the unit for 30 minutes or so before trying to floor it as this would burn away any build up of soot. When I asked for a refund he said that they do not guarentee the unit will work. This wasnt mentioned before fitting , only that a cat may reduce the effectiveness.
My first thoughts are to write him a nice letter and then take him through the small claims court on the basis the unit is not fit for purpose and I was not given sufficient warning that the unit may not work altogether.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Whilst they do appear to be being unhelpfull, give the flamekit a chance. I have the exact same kit, and mine didn't work when I first fitted it, then it suddenly started working. You have to get the car well warmed up first, and I find it flames best if you've been just cruising around first of all, then turn it on and it'll flash a flame on every high-rev gear change and on overrun. Honestly mate, if you are fully de-catted and it's sparking it will probably work. Try experimenting with the plug-gap too.

The website states that flames cannot be gauranteed on any car.
My flamer kit took a little while to get going. Wait until its dark and then take it for a spin.

Thanks for your comments. At least I know there is a chance it might work in the future.
The website may say its not guarenteed but someone should have told me verbally before doing the work.
Even if its not guarenteed the guy could have at least offered to make some kind of effort to get it working. He just wasn't interested.
Whether he guarentees the work or not Trades Descriptions may have different view. Anything that is sold to the public has to be 'Fit for Purpose'.
What adjustment is needed to the gap? Is a bigger gap better ?

the goods he sold are working fine - i.e. sparking. hardly the chaps fault if there is not enough petrol vapour to ignite.
have read before that these kits can take a while before they start to flame.

full throttle gear changes, make sure your not burning the fuel and getting the unburnt stuff through to the spark, as said higher up, you could well be running lean

The back box is a fujitsubo (http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=336388) .
What is a v-tec spark plug and why is it better at producing flames?

Plugs for a v-tec engine are a bit longer.
Just go down to Halfrauds and pick up the longest plug they do.
I also had to open the gap a bit and mount it from the inside of the exhaust rather than from the outside.
Flammin marvelous now
