UK WRX v Classic
Ok i had a serch and couldnt find alot. (Mainly results from the Muppet forum)
Does the WRX as standard still have oooommmpphhh. Do you still get that had back kind of feel. Or is like an Audi S3 kind of fast without really feeling it. ?
I am really missing my classic MY99....Waiting for a WRX is it a mistake to get rid ?

Surely it cant be much slower. The power delivery may be different and that was what i was wondering.. But to say its much slower than a standard MY99 ?

i am getting a wrk on weds, think the power delivery is much smother. the 0-60 time is quicker so i guess its not slower than a classic but just feels it. i have been wondering if its going to be a dissapointment but the consesus sems to be (on SN ans others) that the WRX is quicker and you will get used to it.
cant wait, but going to miss the classic.
sure i wont miss it after a 1000 miles or so
i have measured my bes 0-60 and 40-100 times (on a track) so i can compare once run in.
any way who cares its a new car

the 03s have more of a kick that the bugeyes when the turbo comes in, the bugeyes torque curve seems to be flatter and less aggressive.
Hope thats of use!

Hiya,
Subaru were very conservative with the classic's 0-60 time probably to keep the insurance grouping low 6.4 to 60 my a*se! Try 5.4! The WRX is was some 180KGs heavier and Subaru knew it would be slower so they were honest about its 0-60 time of 5.9 knowing that- on paper- it would seem like a step foward from the classic. Unfortunately, this meant a group 19 rating! The classic feels subjectively about as quick as a new age Sti, to me. It's probably not quite as quick as an Sti, but certainly feels quicker than a WRX. The 03 WRX gave the new age some of its teeth back though. Make no mistake, the WRX is still a very rapid car, it just doesn't feel quite as gung ho as a Classic. It's a lot more refined though and you can always save for the excellent PPP.
Best.

As a WR1 owner from a Type R ( classic ) owner i can vouch for the Heavyness
Never have and i doubt i ever will own such a rapid car as the Type R, its geared for B roads
Where as the New age is heavy and really does need the 2.5 Engine the Japs are getting
We will get the 2.5 engine in the UK models but who knows when ??
I cannot reccommend a classic more.
If you have never owned a scoob before. go for the new age as you will never know how good the classic really is.

My 03 WRX is refined, yes, but certainly has a kick and oomph. I know what you mean about going fast but not feeling it but I think the scoob goes beyond that with plenty of on-boost turbo rush compared to most modern performance cars in this class.

A friend of mine has a lightly modded WRX (de-cat dp, exhaust, panel filter). My classic is also lightly modded (de-cat dp, exhaust, panel filter & 5Kg flywheel). My classic is much quicker on acceleration pulling out approx 8 car lengths up to ~100MPh. Once rolling at motorway speeds, both cars are pretty much equal.....my classic pulling away ever so slightly.

I know what youre all saying about the new age ones-i had the same complaint myself about the smooth power delivery.
All you really need to do to get the "kick" back is to decat the up and down pipes. It really does make a world of difference and you still keep the centre cat for the emmissions.(classics dont have the cat in the uppipe)
My 02 WRX would keep up with an 03STi with that mod alone.Put a Dawes device on it (ideally with a knock link)and it makes it a completely different animal,i set mine to 0.95 bar and it was quite clearly quicker than the STi,set it at 1.2 bar and i'll let you find out for yourself what difference it makes-all i can say is that its amasing-and all with no signs of det(1st amber briefely about 3 times in the hot weather when really given some stick)
All for about £600(up/down pipes, boost gauge, knock link, dawes device)if you can do the fitting yourself
easy

Never underestimate the Blob-eye WRX.
Smoother, better built, modern at last and more economical to run etc. SLightly slower yes but only when pushed and 90% it will not be by most people.

Sorry mate...I know many figures off hand after hrs of studing them but not for bug or blobeyes as I've never had any interest in them...infact I kinda dispise them for making the Impreza name weaker, and easily disposed of by the likes of standard FWD Fiats
Please nobody start a flame war. Pls

It is still an Impreza and the ONLY impreza shape now available.
And why slag them off if you admit to knowing nothing about them.
Times have moved on.
