Default Bonnet flapping at high speeds.. (2003+)

Hi all

Just did a trip from Norway to Trier in Germany to watch the WRC, look at the Nurburgring and drive the Mosel vine-area... Really nice experience though I encountered a strange problem on the Autobahn.

At +180km/h the front edges of the bonnet started to lift on my 03 WRX.. The whole bonnet vibrated quite madly, and I believe the front edges raised about 2 cm above the original layout! I tried adjusting the front rubber ***** all the way down to no help. I think fitting rally-fasteners are a bit drastic to an original WRC..

Anyone else seen this problem ?

Regards

i had the same problem on my 95 wrx it helped when i removed the blanking plates for the bonnet vents, it still does it a bit though also at about 150mph the windscreen wipers wont come back down the screen.this is probably no help to you would be interested to see the outcome with yours

i've heard a lot of people say the bonnets lift at high speed. mine does have quite a lot of movement when its going quick. Not that surprised as it has a dirty great scoop right in the middle of it.

What happens when the blanking plates are removed?

Does is help the engine cooling or does it just let rain into the engine bay?

I think a pic of the bonnet bending would have been better than a monster pic of a speedo.

My 03 STI bonnet flaps around at low speed. You can see it flex and bend at about 50+

At least it a harmonious design in that the rear wing does the same

Default me 2

my 03 sti bonnet looks like it's going to fly off aswell, but dealer said nothing to worry about. imagine how much air is flowing through that vent into the engine at high speed, and forcing the bonnet up! plus the bonnet is aluminium so bends easier.

Was pushing a 911 the other day on a private road... he looked in his mirror... and i don't know what shocked him more... the Scoob closing "gradualy i may add" but closing none th less. or the bonnet jumping about at 120 due to the wind buffeting coming from the Porky...

Yep, mine does it too (53 plate STi)

Subaru just brushed it off when I complained, but I don't notice it much now.

Mine starts to move at about 60mph, then the faster you go the more it moves about.

I had the same problem on my MY03 WRX.
Got the prodrive springs and seems to have levelled the car out better and I don't notice it anymore!

Cruising 'gently' in France over the weekend I stopped twice to check the bonnet convinced it was going to fly off. Has anyone actually lost a bonnet?
