Is my fuel consumption too high?????
Hi,
Had my 93 WRX Import for a few months now & I was wondering what the fuel consumption ought to be?
I am putting £30 ESSO super unleaded in (I prefer this to Optimax-I feel car runs smoother & quieter). This gives me approx 33-34 Litres.
I get around 160-170 miles of on this amount or petrol. (Mostly urban driving/A roads & I don't floor it every chance I get)
Engine not modified as far as I know except for de-cat, coil-pack.
I knew fuel costs would be high, but a friend of mine who had an imprezza & now has an Evo 5 mentioned that he got much better consumption in his imprezza and also gets more than I get in his Evo (which is tuned to 350 Bhp).
Is something knackered or is this normal in these driving/road conditions?
Any advice/help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ceebee

Well I just filled my tank up on Sunday morning. I've done around 120 miles since then and have used just over a quarter of a tank. I drive an 02 wrx. I have done both town and country road driving in the 120 miles. Sounds to me that your cars more thirsty than it should be.

I put around £38 of optimax per Tank in the car and on average get about 230 miles to a tank of regular urban driving and a few blats everynow and then. Yours does sound like its a bit thirsty but then it is an older car.
Still if i were you I would use optimax unless 110% sure the car has been remapped for UK fuel.

I work out your fuel consumption to be about 22mpg, which is on the poor side of normal but not something to be too worried about. A remap might help if it works out cost effective for you given your mileage.

I too, have a 93 WRX, which is de-cat'd.
I tend to get around 22 - 24mpg in normal driving, high teens if pushing on a bit
I've had the car for over 4 years and it has always been impossible to get 250 miles out of the 50 litre tank!!

Have an MY99 Vreg SPORT.
Live near Rochdale, work in Birchwood
Unleaded - top 300 a tank every tank - put the good stuff in plus/advanced/ultra/optimax (whatever they call it ) get even more.
Thats doing a bit of urban - 60-70 mph on motorways.
The price you pay for having a turbo lads

If I don't want to use the turbo, I'll keep it below 2,500 revs. Simple!
Wot do you do when you want to go fast BaldyMan?

22mpg isnt too bad for that early an import impreza to be honest, though you could expect nearer 24 if your lucky as has been said.

Had a knackered lambda sensor on my coupe, changed it and mpg increased quite considerably.
Couple of other things to consider - what temp is your engine running at ? if its not running hot enough that can cause excessive over fuelling.
Check your fuel pipes, there may be a small leak.

Filled up this morning with 35.38 of BP ultimate at the ridiculous price of 91.9p per litre. Filled to click off and managed 221 miles from previous tank.
I make it about 26 mpg
Mostly Mway at 70-100mph accelerating in short bursts (to get past the outside and middle lane hoggers) plus a short A road blast with a couple of 30mph limits
Evo 8 FQ330
35.38/.92 = 38.46
/4.54609 = 8.46
221/8.46 = 26.12..something

I get around 280miles, if driving on the Motorway...at a constant 75mph...boring drive but has to try it... You don't wana know what it does at 150mph...
Otherwise I recently had my car mapped...and all it seems to do is drink drink and drink! Though am working on bringing down the fuel on my FC commander...
Saying all this I have done 6000 miles in 4 months that I have had the car..getting little unaffordable

Thanks everyone for replying..
Having read through the posts it seems as though my consumption is'nt too much to worry about.
It was just in case something in the engine thingy under the bonnet wasn't doing what it should causing me to waste money on fuel instead of investing my money on 40 odd year old prostitutes (If she's good enough for Rooney she'll do for me-See front page of today's Sun) STUNNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
Ceebee
