Well if you have a 98 already there isn't much point upgrading to a 99 or a 00, may aswell get this http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=354182
If it was good enough for Burnsie it's good enough for you

Classic is better in most repects. WRX bugeye feels numb by comparison. Only driven 1 blobeye (Sti8PPP) which was very impressive, but would need to drive blobeye for a bit longer to be sure.
I also have MY98, and am considering upgrade. But as I need the practicality of the wagon I may well go import and get Sti5/6 wagon to be honest. Only a couple of UK cars could tempt me otherwise, RB5 (love the colour), or P1 (just plain old fantastic)
Would certainly by tempted by Sti8/WR1 if I had the money but I don't

Classic = faster, lighter more 'raw'
Bug/blob = better built, better interior, more refined, slower/heavier.
Looks are subject to individual preference, although all Imprezas aren't exactly pretty : more 'stylishly ugly'.
Drive all 3 and see what you think, it's the only way to make an informed decision.

04 Much better to drive, more comfortable ( for us old gits) feels more solid and IMHO goes much better at higher revs. OK, Ill admit that there seems to be more lag on the new one but maybe this will improve will more miles, decat and induction kit.

Having spoken to several non-subaru owners who pass judgement on my car - they always say that the classic is the best looking.
I've got an MY00 but I'll be looking for a newer model next time (poss MY05) - I love the look of the classic but I quite fancy something that's a little bit more refined in terms of comfort and build quality next time.

Classic = old age!!!
Blobeye = New Age.
Built properly, pretty similar performance, cheaper to run, better lines, more "solid", safer and a modern car, not an old Jap taxi with some bolt ons.
Blob-eye, Blob-eye, Blob-eye.
Time to move into the 21st Century, as good as classic are, especially the P1, 22B etc.

they are all good, in different ways, depends what you want, me I want raw, aggressive looks and power, difficult to find a new age to replace it with tbh.
