Road Angel & new age Scoobies
Anyone got the new Road Angel mounted in their new age scooby ?
I ask because I want one fitted in my WR1 and the dealer was going to install an old model. I want the new one (who wouldn't?) but he says they have trouble with the laser detector picking up signals because of the higher air intake bump on new age scoobies ? He then admits they don't actually have any new model Road Angels
Anyone had problems with dash mounted road angels or laser detectors ?

The laser detector is a waste of time anyway, i wouldnt even bother with it.
If, in the unlikely event that the infernal thing actually goes off, it just means that you've been caught.

I have the new Roadangel and it's excellent. Much bigger clearer screen than before, more transferable if you want to retain laser detection as it's an all-in-one, plus has useful features like a compass direction indicator. If you want all the bells and whistles get an Origin B2 for a few extra quid, but if you want neat, simple and effective get the new Roadangel.
Hope that helps!

I've got the new road angel in my WR1 at the moment, the only problems I have are that at speed & on a bumpy surface the unit falls off it's magnetic base mount (it comes witha magnetic base on a window suction cup holder & a magnetic stick on disk for dash mounting), which when your driving along becomes dangerously distracting!
I keep meaning to try the dash mount holder to see if that's any better but I imagine it will be the same, probably due to the harder than normal ride on the WR1.
The other thing is that it doesn't tell you the difference between camera types, you just get a "fixed camera" warning, whereas on the g/f's WRX her Snooper S4R verbally tell's her the camera type, speed limit and distance in metres to the camera, and again the road angel just shows a bar style count down etc.
If I could turn back time I would of gone for another Snooper S4R rather than the new road angel.
Hope this helps......
Cheers,
Liam.

I'd heard laser detectors weren't that great but wanted the new one....because its newer ! I also believe (can anyone confirm ?) that I can take a GPS feed from the new Road Angel and use it with my PDA/Tom Tom Sat Nav solution ? Currently got a seperate GPS sensor but it'd be neater if I could just use the Road Angel.....

It is more of a faff than an all-in-one system, but I had the Ipaq anyway, and I use the system with 1:50000 OS maps for hiking, motorcycling etc, so it is a lot more useful than a dedicated system.
Works too ... I get 20 and 10 second warnings of cameras relative to current speed, which is plenty of time to take a look around. And when not telling me about cameras, TT navigator is an excellent satnav system.

I though the goverment were soon to ban devices which have the ability to "detect" speed measuring devices such as Gatsos and laser guns?
This would mean the new Road Angel with the built in laser has a very short life. The old ones would be OK as the GPS system does not "detect" the Gatsos, the seperate laser add-on does and this could be left off.

Road angels main benefit used to be the longer initial subscription rate and the lifetime option this is no longer available on the new one. The new Road Angel does not offer a competative rate against a snooper model. Although its not slowing sales, sales against old one have been just as good.

I,ve used the new road angel in my new age and it was fine but for my area (Cleveland) it turned out to be useless against an Escort van with a black box in front which turned out to be radar so I promptly swapped it for a Bel 550 .
This is an out and out detector which can false alarm but it detected the mobile radar in ample time to check my speed.
The road angel is only as good as the database and it missed a moveable gatso (A66 Darlington) I new where it was so I was OK but relying on the road angel worried me.
