Newbie Questions
Hi im looking to buy a 4dr UK Turbo 2000 and was wondering what year the facelift occured (nicer interior and front) was it MY97? and what kind of money these are changing hands for roughly?
What sort of things should I look out for when going to view one of these, common faults etc?
Cheers, Colin.

for all your needs, think the facelift was MY98.... a GOOD average mileage R plater should go for around 7k, maybe less maybe more.... depends on mileage and condition....

yeah not a bad site, I bought mine about 3 months ago MY98 terzo on a R plate, I paid £7.5k for it at the time and seemed a bargain as alot were asking closer to 9k although that didnt last long, its realistically worth £7.5k now and has 65k miles on the clock with FSSH....
if u find 1 less than 7k think you'll probably looking at a car with 100k miles on the clock, if that doesnt bother u then you can pick some good bargains up
good luck

There are a lot of uk spec cars that are imports, mine is a my99 uk (parallel import) imported from holland from new. These are uk spec cars and are classed the same for insurance purposes. When he says import ask him to clarify japanese import (you wont get insured easily until you are 25++ even 30) or parallel import (uk spec)

info on the catalunya :-
Catalunya
In 1996, Subaru again won the manufacturers title in the FIA World Rally Championship, finally winning the title with the points gained on the Catalunya rally of Spain. To celebrate this, another limited edition run of 200 cars (again with no number 13) was produced, this time going by the name of the Catalunya (I wonder why?) The main features of the "Cats", as they are commonly known as are:
Special black mica paintwork (red metallic flecks)
Colour matched door mirrors
Gold Alloys (same ones as fitted to 2.0 Sport, but painted gold)
Front and rear seats and side door panelling re-trimmed in black with red highlights
Short rally style gear **** (initial sales blurb promised a quick shift!)
Carbon fibre effect dashboard
Air conditioning
Special floor mats (black with red trim and Catalunya logo)
Side and rear Catalunya decals
Interior numbered Catalunya plaque
The first examples were registered during March 1997, for an on the road price of £21,610. Note that some dealers decided to cash in on tremendous demand for "Cats", and fitted leather seats, sunroof and other options to all their Cats, forcing buyers to hand over significantly more money than the list price, increasing their profit margin on each car sold.

always best to get a quote before hand mate insurance is expensive anyhow let alone when they lump another £200 on there
things to ask the seller? dunno really, had any major work done like clutch etc replaced? check though all the receipts and question anything that looks like a strange thing to have had replaced (i.e. any glass?) etc...
£5.5k sounds reasonable presuming its on a MY97 P plate, plsu going off the spec of the cat could well have stuff like leather etc which gives u the extra value for money...
ask what sort of mileage he gets to a full tank, should give u an indication of how its driven (presuming its a private sale) 200 miles should be minimum, any less and its probably being driven hard alot or its overfueling and at 80k miles might be wiser to walk away

All of the insurance quotes I received for Cataluyna/Terzo's when I was looking for a Scooby came out a few hundred pounds more than the quotes for the standard UK 2000 turbos. When asked why, nearly all of the insurers said they treated the car as a limited edition and therefore non-standard UK car. (Which is odd, because they are "standard"!)

definately get insurance quotes first, atleast then you can decide what model car you can or want to afford.
Where abouts are you? May be worth heading to a meet near you and speak with a few of the regulars. You will probably find someone selling a car or knowing of someone doing so.
Check out the for sale section on here to, there are always some bargains floating around. Most of the people on here are genuine enthusiasts and treat their cars better than their partners

dunno tbh still only on 65k miles myself, Id expect a clutch change might not be far off though at that mileage and beware that another 10k miles the 90k mile service will be due, from a dealer think your looking at the best part of £800.... thats the major 1 with the cambelt etc

80k is only 10 away from a ££££ service btw. Cambelt + all fluids. £750 ish from a dealer (less from a specialist)
You may want to bear this in mind if discussing prices ...
