p1 trade in value
bit of a shocker - p1, 11,000 miles, 2001 registered, full Subaru history, lots of extras, morettes, electric recaros, tints, firestorm decat, extended warranty to Jul 05 and 11 months MOT - £14,000 against a Evo8 MR340 demonstator - priced at £31k complete with wing dent and scuff marks on rear spoiler.
And it didn't seem much quicker than the P1.
Guess what the EVO salemen was told!!

With it's age and mileage I'd expect it to go for £19-20K!

What car do you have?

Garages want to make money, not to have a PX all the time. They get your car dirt cheap or not at all. PX you get about 70% max of the cars actual value - and when they sell it; they sell for more than market value by giving a poxy liitle warranty with it. My previous Vectra GSI, sold private for £7500. PX was offered 6k. Its always been like that ands always will. PX is ****e. Sell it privately.

Sorry, you've lost me.
I realise he was talking about a trade in! If a dealer offerred me that price for that car, I'd think he was trying it on. My post was intimating that he'd be better off selling privately, and by offering that price for the car the dealer was hinting that he should do exactly that!

He will not get offered full 'over' retail for it.

What part of me saying he should sell it privately don't you get?
Incidentally(or not as the case may be), someone over at P1WOC was just offered 18.5K against an STi 04, his had more miles than Nicks!

You would get more in p/ex for a P1 from a Subaru dealer! They can charge more the car and get more people interested in that kind of car. Plus the Subaru garage will want your business so will be prepared to have a smaller margin in the car to sell a new one!
Id say the EVO dealer isnt trying it on. They Will have a bid on the car from another trader/s and these traders will not pay book price on the car, theyl pay below book so they can make there money by moving it through the trade or retailing it! The EVO dealer will more than likly not be able to retail the car as it is non franchise stock, and more than that in the only competitor to the EVO so may take a sale away from that!
The EVO is a totally different car and is in a different league to the Scoobs. But its a lot dearer to buy and maintain with 4500 mile service intervals!
Oh, ive worked as a salesman for Subaru in the past and have owned an STi v4 for two years, but now work for Mitsi as a salesman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bluenose, I was trying for a result on that car there. Trying it on as you might say.
Just saw a P1 with 108,000 on the clock for 12750. I think Nick should get about 18k on a trade in. I would expect to pay over 20500 for that car from a dealer.
IMHO

I did for a giggle & tried to get an underwrite, I phoned the 3 biggest dealers in the area...
The car was specced as this was but with the brakes, lights, seats, wheels, exhaust.
The best bid I got was £15k from a Subaru dealer....
The trade in value is pretty much spot on as were the traders comments, "it's over 3 years old now, these cars are hard work when they are close to £20k retail"
& his ot commens which made me laugh "let me guess he thinks its worth £19/20k, I don't envy you telling him otherwise"
Sorry to say, but that value looks about spot on!.
I didnt pay much more than that 3 years ago for my 1 owner, 9700 mile W reg P1 so how it's worth what you think it is now I have no idea!
