WRX PPP
I have posted a couple of threads about a STI8 which I am proposing to buy. How would a WRX with PPP compare to an STI ???? Any noticable difference or roughly the same ?
Thanks!
Thanks!

The similarities end with the power figures. The STi is a much more focused drivers car. The many STi revisions include much engine work such as sodium lifters and hollow valves with active valve timing IIRC. The 6 speed 'box and better diffs, greatly improve Brembo brakes, quicker steering rack and better suspension. Add the cosmetic enhancements and they are just a league (or 2) above. Go drive them both, and then sample an STi with PPP and you'll feel the difference.

WRX easier car to live with day to day but in terms of performance not a touch on the STi.

what is all this crap about the wrx is better at living on a day to day basis?
Go and buy a poxy ford focus then!
The sti is a car for drivers with big smiles
Had my sti ppp for 9 months and still look for every excuse possible just to go for a spin
considered the options wheni bought mine and the sti ppp has turned out to be the best descision ive ever made

I have a WRX and I've got to agree the STI is better but the WRX is a fair bit cheaper and easy to tune to good power too.
Prodrive springs, whiteline chassis stuff, good pads/hoses/fluid etc and yer away.
STI is better drivers car but the WRX (with or without PPP) is still a hell of a good car (and has no gold wheels )

it was the interior that really sold the sti to me rather then the WRX, didnt really mind about the performance cos im not a good enough driver to tell the difference. Although it is a plus

"Rounded package" - which means compromises in some areas, which are fine for some, or a more hardcore STI

ive heard some people say that the Sti is a little to much for everyday use. I personally think its fine, a little stiff and a little bouncy on really cr*p roads but if you are prepared to live with the poor fuel economy and can keep the needle below 3,000 rpm then she's fine. Obviously shes not ideal but you cant have everything. My old mans TVR was a pig to drive slowly through towns, the clutch was too heavy etc

Hmmm I've got a standard 53 plate WRX and got to drive an ugly-eye STI. The STI is probably a lot quicker with a good driver - but the handling scared me. Maybe I like a bit of understeer when pushing hard??
Agree the interior is miles better - as is the 6 speed box.

I bought a WRX MY04 with PPP.
With the PPP and Prodrive spoiler it comes out at about the same cost as a new Sti - so cost as such was not really the option.
However, with a new baby the Sti was to hardcore for around my way to be using to cart him here, there and everywhere. Plus the wife drives slowly, and most of the time I drive with baby in the back. Therefore, the times I do get to drive on my own (a few times a week) are used to push the WRX a bit - perhaps not quite as fun as the sti - but fun enough.
For me it met my specification, the Sti did not. (for a few years anyway!)

How did it cost nearly as much as an STI - is it an SL wagon?
STI - £24,995
WRX - £20,295 (roughly) + £1600 PPP + £600 Spoiler fitting and painting = approx £22,500 or so.
£2500 is still a lot of money.
I have the Prodrive spoiler on my car which I bought at a good price from a Subaru Importer (£400) and I know that buying the spoiler, fitting and spraying it, colour coding my sideskirts (mine is a 2003) and buying a brake light for it (as it did not have one - £35 approx) was around about £540 or so.
I also got about £1500 off my car as it was a low mileage demo, but did have Pentagon tints, mats, first service done, road tax etc etc plus a few other bits and bobs and I got a good trade in on my old car. If I had added PPP for say £1500 at time of purchase then my car would have cost me £20,600 or so on the road. That is why I did not buy an STI - the best they could do was £24,500 on it - an extra £4000.
Next time I will push the boat out and buy an STI.
Agree the WRX is good day to day and I am very happy with it after all the other stuff I have done to it.
The point is made above though that an STI is cheaper to insure in most cases than a WRX PPP - one of the reasons I have not got it fitted.
All the best Markus
