Smile Scumbag car-jacker sent to jail

On May 27th at 1:30pm i was car-jacked
I was on route home, when i pulled over to the side of the road to let a learner driver who was coming in the other direction through as the road is fairly narrow with parked cars on each side. I had been waiting stationary for about 10 seconds when i felt a nudge from the back of my car. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw another learner car (there is a driving test centre just down the road). I thought that he had just misjudged his braking and rolled into the back of me, so i got out of the car to investigate.
When i walked to the back of my car i realised that it was a new golf that had bumped me, the learner sign that i had seen in my mirror was on the car behind the golf. I bent over to check for damage and out of the corner of my eye saw someone moving towards the drivers door. He glanced into my car and said "nice car, I'm taking it !". As i stood up mr scumbag was opening the drivers door. This is when i realise that i left my keys in the ignition (what a t**t)
I rushed forward to try and stop him getting into my car, but he was already in and starting the car. He started to pull away and the drivers door was not shut yet. I was hanging onto the door trying to stop him shutting it, while staring at my keys in the ignition. My drivers window was half down and i was trying to reach through when he started to acelerate down the road.
Within 1 or 2 seconds i was hanging onto my drivers door window for dear life. Travelling far to fast to let go with my legs doing one of those cartoon style running motions.
He accelerated some more and then did a nice little right , left flick
This is where me and the car parted company
The police reckon i was travelling at between 30 -40mph at this point.
I now have an entirely new apprecation for those russian gymnasts
I have not got a clue how many times i gambolled and flipped over before i stopped moving when i hit someones parked car.
Laying there face down on the road, i heard my scoob dissapear
I went to lift myself up and thought ouch this aint right!

Anyway, to cut an even more boring story short, the police were there within 5 minutes, as were the paramedics.
The police activated my tracker for me, while the paramedics checked me for spinal injuries etc, and then stretcherd me off to hospital.

End result metal plate in my left arm and cuts and bruising

The police helecopter went up, and after a police chase, they had the sh!thead within 40 minutes

Now for the conclusion....

A detective phoned me today to tell me that the scumbag had been to court to plead today.
And he plead guilty.

He got 4 years for robbery.
One more year, as he was already banned from driving.
And another 18 months for driving offenses which is to run concurrently.

So he is going to be locked up for 5 years

Thanks to all who showed concern when this happened.
I could not give any details then because it was going to court.
By pleading guilty before a full court hearing, he got a more lenient sentence.

Still dont know what happened to the stolen golf that drove into me though, or the other person driving it

Phew

Very sorry to hear about your terrifying event, well done to the Police on this occasion. Shame the Courts give out such weak sentances, 5yrs he will be out within 2yrs. He probably went for guilty on the Robbery as he was staring down the business end of an attempt murder charge!

Lets hope he shares a cell with Pant Stainer Smith!

Why are these sentences always concurrent? Why can't they make them consecutive and give the b******s even more time of taking it involuntarily up the sh1tter every night???

Brilliant news. Sentence not nearly long enough for what may have been attempted murder though. Hope this brings closure to you, as the Americans say.

Best wishes

Read about what happened a few months back, glad your on the mend & that he got what seems about right for a change.

Hope you are not considering leaving the fold as it could happen in any half decent car.

If people don't know me, i'm Greg's other half !
I remember the call i got from the Police, to say that Greg had been
car-jacked , i was so scared, the not knowing, was the worst.
I was at work at the time when i received the call, all i wanted to do was get to the
hospital as soon as possible. I had no idea how badly he was injured.
When i got to the hospital he was sitting there in A & E with a broken arm at the time
and he said Sorry ! I was glad to see him. Then the police returned to say they had got the car back and caught the scumbag.
I would like to thank everyone for their support, it was great help to us both.
So , thank you everyone !
Alison
p.s. I still love scoobies

No were keeping our scooby

Just bought a second runabout car yesterday to use for work.

A Ford KA

Its sort of sonic blue.
It just needs some gold wheel trims and a stick on bonnet scoop

Can you get a KA re-mapped

Yeah, he managed to damage my gearbox.
Had to claim on my own insurance.

But the worst thing is that when i got out of hospital and went to get my car released from the police lock up, i had to pay £348

Thumbs up

Greg,

glad to see a swift conclusion to your unfortunate adventure, but sad to see such a tame sentence handed down

If you think of the total cost associated with the attempted theft (increased insurance, inconvenience, NHS, police, chopper, courts, bionic arm etc.), five years (or more likely "two and a tag") is nowhere near enough. He should serve his full (consecutive) sentence and then do hard labour to earn enough to cover the expenses he has incurred.

Or we would try the old "rusty knife and a room whose door won't open until a bollock (or two) is handed over"

Hopefully you can run the Scooby on a reduced mileage insurance now, but i'll be extra careful when i see a Ka around town from now on

BTW, do you know how old the scumbag was??

Cheers,

mb

No i dont have any details about him.
I do know that he has a police record though.
To be honest, i was taken by surprise when the police phoned me today to tell me the result. I had intended to go to the court case wether i needed to give evidence or not. The police did tell me that it was unlikly that i would have to give evidence, being as there was such a strong case against him, ie witnesses video footage etc.
I tried to phone back the detective a little while later for more information, but could not get hold of him.

Andrew

When the forensic's had finished with my car, they had it moved to a lock-up that the police use for storing cars. This incurs a daily charge.
As my car was not driveable (not that i could anyway) , i had to arrange to have it collected and taken for repair when i came out of hospital. Hence the £348

5 years sounds good to me... aslong as it is 5 years, £350 is an outrage is that what you call rubbing salt into the wounds

when they pick up a murder victom do the charge for cold storage

Gregg sorry I didn't see you at JAE, I walked passed your car 5 + times but I couldn't see you, may be the case of larger had something to do with it..

I spent most saturday night down the fair with Jen and one of my buddies and the rest of the time cooking on the bbq

see you at the Malven hills or Rally day if I make it

I seemed to have missed this thread methinks. TBH mate i cant believe he only got 5 years. The swine of hell could of bloody killed you for a lump of metal. Glad justice was partially served though.

Some guys tried to car jack me about 3 months ago on a lonely duel carriageway. They pulled in front of my Evo slamming the anchors on and about 4 of them jumped out and sprinted at me. Luckily enough for me i had already anticipated the event and had it in 1st gear ready. I dialled in 6K of revs and dumped my racing clutch almost clipping the to$$ers. The look on their face was priceless. they gave chase but lasted about 20 secs. Next time if anyone tries it i will run the bas**rds over.

Lets hope he drops the soap a few times in the shower and gets whats coming to him

Greg did u get any sort of compensation ?
when 2 w@nkers decided to break into my Cav, but were fortunatly chased away by a mad man in his shorts waving a baseball bat (yes it was me) luckily it was 5am so not many people about, thank god. i was awarded £50 compensation for damange to my lock, i was sent a chq along with a covering letter form the police officer who dealt with the case which had the tw@ts name and address on it so you may get lucky

And yes i did hear that the glaziers were round repairing a window or 2 over the next weekend not that i had anything to do with it
