Default *>!*ing car park dents

Now I'm getting paranoid- parked my MY00 wagon in tesco's car park, right in the corner and as far over to one side of the space as possible. Thought "it'll be OK for 10mins while I whizz in". What do I find when I get- another s*dding great dent on the passenger door. That makes 10 in all now, nicely distributed down both sides of the car. Why can't people be a bit more careful...?? I guess the fact the scooby doors seem to be made of cheese doesn't help.

Anyway, a question- is there anything out there that can be fitted down each side as a "bump strip" as I've really had it with dents from inconsiderate numpties. Something that doesn't look sh1te? Any suggestions welcome.

Right, spleen vented. Now to have another bash with the Hellfrauds "dent improver" kit...

You could fit a proximity alarm, this chirps when anybody gets near your car.

It makes people more aware, having said that, it did not stop a bloke opening his door, the wind caught it and slamming into my rear door, alarm was off, but wife was sat in the car!

Lucky he paid up, think it cost him about £250.00

It was a pub car park, and a Subaru Club meeting.

Plenty of witnesses

Exclamation dings

im the same as you where i park miles away from anyone i went to the snipe in ashton (B and bloody Q where i parked right at the back away from evreyone (girlfriend moaning about the walk) - i go into the store for 10 mins, when i come out only to find some ar*e has wacked my 00 sonic blue baby in the rear door with a trolly (ie small dent) luckaly i got it sorted with no long term effects so now i park even further away in the corner at staples on the snipe where no one ever parks just to go into B and Q who was that that parked next to me on saturday in a blue STI and may i just say welldone for keeping a propper distance away from me (an open door and a half away) (we were the only 2 in that corner)

anyway rant over sorry about that

also by parking in 2 spaces you get some stuped old bid still trying to get there robin reliant (or however its spelt into the half space (ie causing even more damage to the car)

Just having my 2p`s worth

regards

Jud

done that myself and still had some ******* lemon parked tight to my car

what made it worse was the fact there were only a few cars in the car park with bundles of other spaces! think my mate summed it up saying it's the 'sheep syndrome'. saw a car, parked next to it

(hope you haven't kerbed those nice alloys simb)

I was filling mine up with Optimax the other week, back to the car, looking at another £45 to burn. When I felt the car rock, I thought what the **** was that?
The fella who had pulled up at the opposite pump had opened his door and tw4ted my passenger door.
When I asked him what the **** he was doing he replied, " Sorry my foot slipped."
"Do you often open your door with your foot you wain kerr," I asked.

Anyway its now been into the bodyshop and has been fixed, its perfect now.

But some people dont give a ****, and thats the way they are. They drive around in sh1ttips and dont care what damage they do to other peoples cars, Ive seen it so many times.

I cant say too much though, I opened a van door on my own car wing last week, another job for the DentMaster.
The doors on a Renault Traffic are alot bigger than Im used to.

Unfortunately there was no one next to me when I arrived, and no one there when I came back to the car. Hence the paranoia- some sort of phantom car denter! And yes, I am sad enough to check both sides of the car whenever I return to it

Seriously though, I always feel bad about parking across two spaces, even in a fairly empty car park, and if I do it at work (where I've also picked up a dent), security get all shirty and threaten to stop my parking on site

I'm sure somewhere I saw a photo of a bugeye with what can only be described as plastic "runners" down each side, and they actually didn't look too crap. Ring any bells with anyone?

The best price I can get from the local "dent doctor" is 65 squid per panel. That'll be 260 quid then for my 4 doors, and inevitably some tw*t will immediately put a new dent in as soon as I get it done. Hence the need for some sort of protective thingies that will be the first point of impact for any careless ****** who doesn't give a toss about anyone else's car. Kind of like I had on my old Golf- rubbery strips that catch the dings...

I always park at the end - so half the chance of getting a door bumped.

And try and pick the car you park by - old bangers, vans, company cars and anything that looks like it might have kids in it need to be avoided!!

I even open the back doors for the kids so they don't accidently bump someone else - doesn't take much to be careful and considerate

Drives me mad, but lets just say on the couple of occasions I've caught someone bumping mine - they have come off much much worse....

I don't mind the look of those subaru ones (and I have a black car so OK), but surely theres a small market for removable bump strips?

Maybe some of that pipe lagging polystyrene tubing from B&Q. Couple of pieces, joined with string. Store in the boot then when you park, drape over either side of the car.

Job done!

Your right, there are phantom denters out there. No matter where you park, and sometimes I park so far away, I wonder do I really need anything in the shop, someone will park next to you. The bump guards look like a good one for doors, but i'm afraid the dont protect it all. My old Scoobie got a whack just behind rear door on wheel arch. My missus has a little Pug and it has a dent up by petrol cap, that must be a jeep thing or a screaming brat mobile (psv). Just watch in the carparks the doors fly open, the kids are all over other cars and the parents are oblivious. If you say anything all you get is "there not doing anything", I'm afraid a few unsavoury at this point does make them take note.

You can get them colour-matched easily enough - any decent bodyshop should be able to mix up some paint and spray 'em for you. That's what I'm getting on mine. OK, they won't protect the whole side of the car, but they're better than nothing at all.
