Track Day Insurance - NFU Policy Holders
#1
There was recently a post on here implying that NFU Mutual policy holders were automatically covered under their insurance for Track Days.
I have just spoken to Karen @ NFU in Northants & she states categorically that this is not the case. She has sought clarification from head office and Track Days are NOT covered.
They will NOT pay out for any damage occuring as a result of any Track Days, Speed Testing, Sprinting or anything similar.
If you wish to query this, Karen is on 01604 883 726.
Personally I would not take the risk if you think otherwise.

When I took out my insurance with NFU in February they told me I would be covered for track use provided it was not racing and it was not a time trial.
I think Stef is insured with NFU and he does loads of track events.
Perhaps you could comment Stef.

Karen is seeking clarification from Head Office. I don't think NFU Mutual was reckoning on loads of scooby impreza turbo nutter b'stards (myself included) insuring with them as we got preferential rates for driving an "agricultural" vehicle (Cossie boys - leave the comments out please ). They had in mind the more sedate tractor/trailer or combine harvester type of driver (yes, have seen combine demo derbys on TV) whose only track days would be down the farm & whose general risk is pretty low.
When I took out my insurance in Feb, I made a point of asking about track days & was told NO. I rang NFU & asked whether I was covered for REVS @ Alconbury Airfield & it was referred to HQ & they graciously allowed cover for that event.
I queried it again after posts on the bbs's saying that NFU covered track days & again was told NO.
I would recommend that anyone who has been told the opposite clarify it with their agent, especially since this has come into open debate on the BBS. Do not take the risk of assuming that you are covered when in fact you are not.
It may be that NFU need to rewrite their policy docs and for the time being you may actually be covered BUT that is a risk. As I am led to understand, they currently do not, and do not intend to start, covering track days. Karen will be in touch & I will post the result of her enquiry to HQ in due course.
I, for one, would prefer to keep the claims resulting from us lot to a minimum as it will effect our policies in the future. It may be that there is only 1 minor crash on track, but rest assured that accident would be blown out of all proportion by the bean-counters & everyone (track days or not) would suffer increased premiums. I think that we will find that scooby & SIDC members will begin to get preferential rates for track days from specialist brokers, such as Eggar Lawson. Also in the pipeline might be NFU discounts for SIDC members. I would like to keep the track & road separate as the potential savings on the road policy far outweigh the occaisonal cost of track insurance.
Ho!Hum! I do go on a bit sometimes!

Who said NFU specifically covered track days then?
I don't really want to get involved for obvious reasons, but I'm a believer in the "if it's not excluded on the policy, I'm covered" approach.
If you make them aware you do track days, any company will probably sneak an exclusion on your renewal.
I'm sure this approach doesn't suit everybody, but the words 'track days' convey racing which of course isn't allowed anyway, and therefore may paint an exaggerated picture of what actually goes on.
Stef.
