Import a scooby?
Having read an earlier thread about the price of a second hand sti and the thought of buying a new car has prompted me to ask this question?
ARE THERE NOT CHEAPER OPTIONS TO BE HAD BUYING ABROAD ANYMORE?
I imported my uk spec MY2000 classic from Holland and saved approx 5k on main dealer list price... at a time when the dealer would not discount, even for cash.
Have things changed so much in 4 years?

I used to run my own import business and did quite a few Imprezas, including a couple for myself. At the time the UK list price of a 2000 turbo was about £21250 if I remember rightly - the import price (from me!) was about £15500 otr including cat 1 alarm.
Since then the exchange rate has worsened for us quite considerably. Also, the list price of the car in the UK has come down (£20k) and in Europe it has gone up. At a guess, bringing a car from Holland over yourself and adding on the cost of travel, alarm etc you'd be looking at around £18k now. Given that a bit of hard bargaining will get you into a UK car for less than £19k, and in the case of a WRX 3 years free servicing, and the maths just don't add up like they used to.
The only thing to say is it was people like me and you that brought the prices down. Sweet!
Cheers
