I've got an E registered Toyota and they still stick the sensor up the exhaust pipe to check emissions at MOT time It has no CATS but I'm sure the regs came in at the K and L plate time.......... not sure though.

The Dept of Transport decided that from 1 January 1996 petrol engine vehicles equipped with catalytic converters and registered after 1 August 1992 must be tested in the MoT scheme in line with European Union requirements for CO and HC emissions. The limits of the tests have been determined by the car manufacturers.

But cars with chassis' and engines built prior to 6 months before 1 August [ie before 1 Feb] but registered after 1 August 1992 are exempt from the EC ruling.
