Default WR1 ? 22B ? Jap Import STi ?

Ive been thinking of swapping the P1 for a new shape, maybe a WR1.....

I was very tempted to buy a 22B but i have been told that unless i have the cash laying around to pay for engine rebuilds and so on then not to bother....
Hence why im thinking of the new shape as the warranty will ease those worries as this is going to be an everyday car........
Now the WR1 is a lovely looking motor but a few people in the know have suggested the new 2005 spec twin scroll Jap import Sti.

Does anyone currently have one of these ??? Are they better than the WR1 ?

And before anyone comments on the warranty of an import, i know most dealerships wont touch them but i have been in touch with David Hendry Cars and they offer full 3yr warranty, same as u would get with UK spec..

What I understand nobody has got the new 2005 Spec STI. The first will be delivered in September this year. But it could be different with the grey import.

Sure the T25 is awesome.

But when I buy a car half the fun is to upgrade it later. So I would rather go for a JDM 2005 STI than the T25.

I ordered the 2005 STI for a month ago

The spoiler is optional. You can have the STi or the WRX one as well.

I must use a calculator to transform it to GBP from Sek :-)

27071 £ was the result.

I Bought it in Sweden. It´s not possible to register a JDM STI in Sweden so i had to buy the one that comes in September. That means DCCD but not all the advantages that the JDM STI has :-( But there will be time to upgrade after I recieve the car.

The first '05 JDM STIs arrive in this country in a week or so. On paper it's certainly a better car than the WR1 - it has over 300bhp as standard (and more if you change the exhaust and remap it) including the fabulous twin-scroll turbo which gives much better low down response and flexibility. You get DCCD-A and the quick steering rack, of course, but also:

- longer wheelbase and Spec C front geometry
- larger intercooler
- revised inlet system and low back pressure exhaust
- G sensor included in DCCD-A system
- new helical front diff

You also get the usual Japanese toys - electric folding mirrors, rear wash/wipe, 5-stage illuminated dash (new design), plus the new interior inc. climate control.

I drove an '04 JDM STI and loved it - in fact I ordered my '05 car two days later. Only complaint is the crashy ride, easily sorted with some new springs which I'm having fitted before registration.

Default 22b

You are probably doing the right thing going for the new scooby, peace of mind and all. I have a uk 22b with 40k on the clock and never had to do a thing to it, can't understand why you think you need a load of cash to run it.
The only thing i can say about the new scooby is, if you are a hard and fast driver(the way a scooby should be driven) you get no feed back from it . I think they have gone too soft in the handling dep.

G sensor. Isn´t that the sensor that works like the Active Yaw control on the EVO:s?

My Japanese isn't that great, so I'm not sure exactly how the G sensor is used. I believe it feeds into the DCCD-A system and therefore affects torque distribution front to rear, rather than between the rear wheels as in the Evo.

The Evo write up gave it 5 stars and described the car as 'the most awesome Impreza yet'.

2005 Japanese 320bhp Model.
Other Japanese Spec Changes Include twin scroll turbo, swichable electomagnetic centre diff, quick rack Steering, HID Lamps, special bridgestone tyres. Climate AC, Brembo Brakes, 3 Year Warranty, Cat 1 Alarm, RAC Trackstar £27,995.

Sounding like a much better deal by the day

Yep it´s a better deal for You in Britain :-) For me there will only be the Euro spec STI or a limited edition STI that could come to Sweden like the Petter Solberg Edition did.

The price I said is the dealers price in Sweden, i got a much better price because I know the Subaru dealer :-D

22b engine is no more fragile than any other impreza engine.

just make sure you feed it the right fuel (optimax) and octane booster.

Murdo, as a 22B owner, how comes you aren't on bbs.22b.com?

murdo: I'm not upset (just maybe a bit quick to post after a few glasses of a rather good Chilean Merlot! Please forgive me... ).

All I was trying to point out was that Subaru have taken your quite reasonable - and not uncommon - criticism on board and have tried to fix it. I for one am not complaining about that

It's a forum for 22b owners, similar to Scoobynet with a BBS etc.

I too am looking for a 22b to replace the P1 that I have now. I have found a few I'm interested, coincidently they are both at a friends garage . They are £26 and £27k, both low mileage. For that money, if the engine did go, then I'd still have a few grand that id have saved from a brand new top spec Impreza to play with.

And to be honest if the engine did go, I'd probably not have the 2.2 to replace it, more likely a 2.5 or even just a 2 litre! As it would be a car id be keeping for a long time, I'm not bothered what engine is in there as long as it's reliable and as quick as the original.
