Question How Much Petrol Left When On E ?

1. Just wondering if there is an indicater signal to let you no you are low on petrol as i have only had my first Subaru ( WRX ) for two weeks and I'm seing how much i get out the tank ? and it's on E.

2. When I do hit the E level how many miles have I got before the car stops aswell, anybody tried this ?.

3. Why can't I insert an image of my dials ?.

Thx.

My MY03 WRX still has approx 10 litres in it when the light comes on.

Be careful, the engine won't be at all happy about running out of fuel especially if you're caning it at the time, and you will pick up any sh*t that may have been lurking at the bottom of the tank.

Older cars have no fuel light but from M/Y 99 or earlier they had.
20-50 mls from showing empty. Not good practice as indicated above.

like rrh says not a good idea to get that low, i have got some 20 litres jerry cans and if we ever go where there are no shell garages, you always know that youve got optimax on board, so no frantic looking for a shell garage

You don't have to empty the tank to work out the fuel consumption. Reset the trip computer when you fill up (to the brim), then make a note of the milage and exactly how many litres you need at the next (to the brim) fill up. Divide the litres by 4.54609 to get gallons, then divide the miles recorded by the gallons.

My personal best was 339.5 miles on 51litres

51ltr / 4.54609 = 11.223gal
339.5ml / 11.223gal = 30.25

Normally only get about 22

I averaged 23 on last weekends return trip to Silverstone- heavily laden and rapid transit, if you know what I mean

I usually average about 19 round town / commuting, but I do have a heavy right foot.

I once saw 30mpg, but think I must have forgotten to zero the trip when I filled up and had actually used two tanks!

The MY03/04 will get to the empty line before the light comes on, I try to fill up pdq just in case.

From fairly extensive track experience, and as no doubt Harvey will concur, Imprezas can suffer from fuel starvation on anything less than half a tank (Granted cornering forces on track are usually considerably higher than on the road)

I got about 10 miles from the E, and it wasnt even half way across the E on my early WRX. I did pretty well in getting 245 to that point but that was on granny mode with no boost or no rapid acceleration and keeping below 3000 RPM which kinda removes the pleasure side

I have always questioned the logic of talking about fuel economy and Jap performance cars at the same time;

IMHO the two can't comfortably co-exist.

Whilst we all moan about the amount of Optimax our cars consume, if we were really that concerned we'd buy citreons (flame suit on, yes I know a Saxo will wipe the floor with an Impreza in the wet through the twisties ), not noisy jap rockets with big ******** spoilers everywhere

/soapbox mode off

Bit extreme, especially as Optimax degrades over time! It would be better just to use BP Ultimate or carry some octane booster.

LOL. iv'e never let my tank get below 1/4 so i'll give no advice,
the octane booster is a far more sensible thing to do than carry all that petrol around.

Cheers Darren.

Thumbs up

if we fill them up when we go out, they are always emptied into car when we get back home so not left in for any length of time.
