Trashed It
This happened a while ago now, I will explain the reason for my posting.
Firstly what you all want to see, the evidence.

I am not going to say how long I had the car for, but lets just say it was more than a month, but I never needed to fill up the screen wash
The car is long since dead. By the way I can recomend direct line, they completely paid up in full and I had what I paid for the car in a cheque in my hand in less than a week, no questions asked.
Since then I bought an Audi A3 1.8T Sport. Very safe and can be fairly nimble but altimately I have come to realise that it is dull. I also now commute a hell of a long way to work and back every day. Not in terms of distance but in terms of time spent sitting in traffic. I can spend three hours a day sitting in my car to do a round trip of 55 miles. Urgh!
This is where I am going, the A3 has to go. I still think about the scooby... But now that my commute is a nightmare I am turning to the dark side and I want an automatic. It appears as though the only impreza turbos that I can see that are auto's are slightly older (I dont really mind this, the older a car the more I can justify tinkering with it) but they appear to be imports. Is this the case?
If I am destined to get an import, my direct line insurance will laugh at me. Can anyone recomend. I am 27 and live in Clapham, highly nickable neck of the woods so most of the quotes I have done on line come out silly. I also dont want to go with Tesco's or elephant. I have heard not too nice things about those.
So am I stuck, do I have to get an import. Help!!!
I hope the pictures make you smile, the old guy doing the pickup could not stop laughing

Can you please post that picture to anyone who says that you can't crash a 4wd car because they are oh so safe and have super-duper handling and RWD cars are crap!
As I'm aware the only Turbo Auto's are JDM imports only, they never made a UK version. However, they make Auto Legacy H6's, Outbacks and Auto Forester Turbos, although their progress is rather more sedate
Now what you could do with the wrecked scooby, is cut out the bent bit (rear passenger seats). Weld the good bits back together, shorten the rear propshaft, and hey presto a SWB 2 seater scooby Who needs rear seats?

Looks like a tree/spin or lamp post?
I certainly didn't laugh - you were lucky.
Why not go for something like an RB5 or an older (MY98ish) WRX? I doubt it will be THAT much more than a UK..... you'll get hammered anyway.
Best of luck though

A quick representation of the thing that got me:
http://www.mfgappssolutions.com/car/bringer_of_doom.jpg
Thanks for your kind posts, both myself and my passenger were fine, just a bit of whip lash and we were both able to hop quickly out.
It was a very very wet day and I was cut the corner a little across some white lines on the road. Crazy thing was we were not going very fast at all, but the car wanted to spin. So around we went. I think the problem was some rather bad tires on the back. I should have replaced them when I got the car as they looked c**p.
Yes the 4 wheel drive did not help, in fact I think it helped the spin appear so quickly.
A guy in one of the houses came out and said that a car does exactly the same thing here every couple of weeks, it was a Skyline the month before. If only I'd have had my road angel then, perhaps I would have been given a blackspot warning...
Still you learn from your mistakes, so the rally course is all booked up.

Scary when it happens, you can't take the power off or put the power on. This why I laugh at people who have a go at rear wheel drive cars, when 4 wheel drive and front wheel drive can suffer the same problems.
The tyre man's advice is always put the good tyres on the rear - front wheel drive, 4wd or rear. Many people think that if bacuse the front does all the steering the best tyres need to go on the front. Your case is a classic yet unfortunate example

That's nasty glad you're OK, did sort of the same thing to mine last scooby, except there was no lamp-post and it ended up on it's roof. If anyone wants to see the pictures, or can put them up on here (I'm useless with these things) I can email them, they're worth seeing.

end over end, oooowwwww. Cars can turn from fun very quickly into not so fun cant they. I have found that the not so fun dies down and gets back to fun again.
Spent quite a while looking into Legacy's and such, look a bit mad nutter cars, yet practical too. I think of the snowboard would look fairly good sitting in the back. Although I did take a look at a boxster today. Does that make me a hair dresser? No offence to any hair care folk

Might be a good idea to reply to Julian WRX mate, as he will pester you until you do - re: any scooby bits spare!
I assume the insurance company took possession of the write off after payout?

To be honest as soon as I opened the very first picture I thought the rear tyres were totally bald before you even mentioned them - if so you've only got your self to blame. (plus 3 points per tyre to look forward to I the police got involved!)
Actually to be fair I spotted some tread when looking at a later picture, just the outside edges seem very smooth, but some left in the middle.

Have you thought about an SVX ? Getting on a bit now I grant you but it's a 3litre flat six with an auto-box. Should give you plenty of grunt. No doubt there is someone out there who could "tinker" with it if you wanted more....
May be able to get it cheaper on the insurance too given that they're available as a proper UK spec vehicle.

In reply then,
No the insurance company took it all, but I was happy with that as I could not belive that they were giving me the total amount back. I wanted to grab the money and run away before they changed their minds.
As for the tires, they were all in the legal limit. I just dont think they were a very good quality of tire, therefore put together with the terrible wet conditions, white lines on the road, and general crap place that I was I cant blame the tires soley as there were other factors, but mostly me as I was driving.
The police drove by and stopped to take all my details got a letter through a while after saying that the lampost was dropping all of the charges.
SVX - I will look into that one. Cheers
Evo's - too expensive to run, oil change every 4K I heard, that would be every two months then Please correct me if I am wrong though, as they are quite smart.
