Stolen Car - Your Help Needed
Guys,
am posting on behalf of a friend, Phil Hotham, whose Sti8 was stolen last night (SEE PICTURES IN FLAT ERIC'S POST BELOW). Although a long shot, I hoped that by notifying as many Scooby sites as possible that it might, just might, be spotted.
The blue Scooby, registration YY04 CGG, was taken by professional thieves from the drive of his home in Elloughton, near Hull, sometime between midnight and 6am this morning. They broke into his house to get the keys.
Police say a number of cars have been stolen from the estate where he lives in recent weeks. It will probably be "worked on" to remove as many traces of the original as possible and sold on, probably down south according to the boys in blue.
The car has distinguishing marks, including the Subaru flashes on the rear doors (both sides) and the front brakes are Alcons (polished aluminium) with OE Brembos on the rear.
I know all these things will be changed, but maybe? And just about every panel on new Scoobs has a stamp that can be checked against the chassis number, so if anyone buys a second hand Sti8 and they're not sure of its heritage...
Any help appreciated; email me on liz@blows.fslife.co.uk
AND IF YOU SEE THE CAR OR HAVE ANY INFORMATION, PLEASE CALL HULL POLICE ON 01482 351211
Thanks

Yes!
It did have a tracker - but according to police there is technology out there that not only allows thieves to find the tracker on the car, but also block the signal. Scary.

Sorry to hear of your news but if they are 'Professional' thieves who can detect and block a Tracker then why did they have to break into your house and steal the keys in order to steal the car??
How did they break into the house? Most thieves just kick the door down and demand the keys. Not to trying to be funny here but just interested to know how these ppl do it and get away with it.

Seiously I do not think it would be very constructive to discuss the ways & means of how to break into houses,or how to get into the Scooby, yet alone how to get round any security fitted.
You will be asking the combination to the padlock on my gates next.
And what sort of sausages my dog likes.
I dont think a post mortem is whats needed here.Just help in finding the car.All IMHO of course.
Mark.

I found mine, on the first attempt, it would parobably take me a little over 5mins to disable it. I was tempted to move it somewhere where it would be inaccessible (I used to fit alarms), but I never bothered incase it plays up and I need to call out a technician to sort it, and I would think tracker would not be happy with me messing with the equipment.
It's bad news though, but I'll keep a look out for Phil's STi

The value of a car increases in a crook's eyes when it can be sold with the keys, rather than with a broken steering lock and a bunch of wires hanging from the steering column. Also much less damage is caused to the vehicle when stealing it.

Very sorry Phil Hotham's car has disappeared in this way. I really hope it is found and returned but King George Dock isn't far away from Elloughton......gateway to both Scandinavia and Europe. All too easy.....
Is it really possible to disarm Tracker anyone?

Yoza did a post a few months back explaining how you could disable a tracker within 2 seconds if you have the right equipment.
Obviously wont go into it here, but the right equipment is available around most of the country and can be bought for about £50 if necessary
Shocking stuff

Right I think we have established that security systems can be breached by those with the knowledge and or the equipment to do so. Nothing new there.
What has been created by man can be undone by man & all that.
Bit like viruses on here.As quick as a patch or firewall is made someone comes up with a new one to beat it.And so the process goes on of trying to keep one jump ahead.
Lets not make this thread into a "Chav Dummies Guide to Stealing Imprezas"
Why air the dirty laundry of any cars vulnerability or not to theft on a public forum?
You would not sit in the pub & say in a loud voice that all you need to drive your car away from the car park is to know that your pin number is 4321.
Keep em guessing. Those that don't know already.
Exactly Gordon.A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Tossas! Really sorry to hear about the car, but glad no other damage/injury was also done to owner, hope it finds it's way back to the owner asap.
Any news on how they broke into the house? details would help us all be more prepared.
Pissed off to hear gangs are operating in the Hull area... however Scoobys aren't the only thing Hull is famous for...

Yoza's method will probably work but it will almost certainly goose the DME as well, so youd have to disconnect it from the loom before trying. The 'technology' for finding an activated tracker costs about £12; its frightening isnt it? Seeing as the fitting is usually of an appaling standard, disabling the damned thing will usually be done with a big screwdriver!

im now convinced that someone at tracker is giving out names and addresses, this is happening to often. i can think of 15 cars stolen in the last 2 months with trackers .
im having an anti theft device fitted to my car.one car was stolen from a really posh village in the middle of nowhere garaged long drive leading to the house.if he would of been followed they would of stuck out like a sore thumb.WITH A ANTI THEFT DEVICE
THEY CAN TAKE THE KEYS BUT THE CAR WILL RUN TO A HOLT IN 40 SECONDS AND THEY WONT KNOW IT HAS THAT DEVICE.

How hard is it to nick a car stereo? Only the same skill and tools are required.

morning all ,so here is what phil has told me,
they broke in to his house and took the keys and then pushed it off his drive way.
when he found it was gone called the police and called tracker,
now unless the car knows its been stolen the tracker stay's in sleep mode!
they could not locate it! so they dailed it as they have a sim card in the module it self which they can call by phone to find its location, they called it and no reply, 2 hour's later they called it again and bingo it got a reply!!
from some scum that had took the sim card out of the tracker and put the sim card in a mobile phone!!!!!!!!!!
will keep you up todate as i find out more!
also some scum had a go at mine early this morning!!!!
