I know this is probably going to qualify me, in some minds at least, for hysterical gales of laughter, but I'm really hoping someone out here can help me. I just purchased an 85 GL Wagon, with the Hitachi carb. I've since come to realize that the previous owner opted to tear out many, many of the vacuum lines, assemblies, and solenoids. Since the initial purchase, I've made it to a scrap yard or two to obtain replacements, but now I'm at a bit of a loss. Both Haynes and Chiltons helpfully tell me that there are many hoses that need to be carefully cataloged when removed, so they can be reattached properly. But I'm a bit past that stage. Does anyone have, or know where I can get, pictures of the hose layout as it's supposed to be with all the metal and rubber hoses connected properly?

Hi, I doubt you'd get much help from a uk board on this type of Scoob Maybe try an aussie or a NZ site or possibly one on your side if the atlantic.

re your gl theres nowt wrong with it its a scooby FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!

my only concern is that its a carb model,, which may be a concern,,,

however Haynes do a manual that covers the legacy series, to which you will find many of the internals (engine and running gear are one and the same)

if you contact them, or use there web site, i,m sure they could help...



i also have a gl but a my96 and injection ..the haynes manual is a great help

Ssurgul, I once had one of the former and I got by looking after it with a haynes manual for the latter I'm not sure if is the one you have but the isbn # is 1 85010 732 7 I hope it helps and you get it back on the road soon. It's a shame there is not more knowledge around for the EA series blocks

As a matter of fact, that first pic looks almost identical to mine, save mine is more silvery than grey.

I tend to think so, as I'm finding the bulk of the missing parts at scrap yards for pennies on the dollar. Or just pennies in fact. I already have the metal hose assemblies that go under the manifold and 'most' of the hoses that were connected to it. But the guy that owned it before me seems to have simply spliced and sliced other lines at will as well. Bulk vacuum hose, or the stuff from the yards that isn't mangled, is dirt cheap. And I'm really needing a car that can get excellent gas mileage. So, I'm trying to get this thing back into as stable shape as I can. Not to mention that this car pretty much has to last me at least 6 months anyway.

Tragically, the Haynes and Chiltons manual for this model series says to simply watch what lines went where, tag them, and reinstall them after the fact. The vacuum system diagrams are as useless as the wiring diagrams when it comes to actual placement. Sure they tell you, in some cases, that this part connects to this one, but they give no diagrams or pictures that show the actual parts. And given this goofy metal tubing that runs under the manifold and pokes out from two sides, and in different angles and such, it's definitely not just as easy as plug and pray.

Is that the one with the spare wheel under the bonnet? Guy I knew at uni had one of those, never seen one before or since but I recognised the badge and got talking about it... flat-4 engine and AWD of course

The same as what I had, except mine had a raised roofline and was white/orangy brown

They go on forever providing the body is rust free. One of my cambelts went after 2 weeks, we couldn't think what was wrong with it for ages untill we realised the distributor was not going round - new belts and it was running fine
This is what I replaced it with I'm planning to buy a Legacy GTB next year

I'd forgotton about the spare wheel, I still had to empty my entire boot out to get to my cross brace when I had a puncture

blimey theres a lot of people making outragous claims about there pandas performance...

The model in question was very advanced in its heyday, how many standard cars from the eightys, had built in pods complete with angle and yaw gauges and had 4wd??
i seem to remember my neighbour having one and towing me home in the snow when i bust the front suspension on my car....
even my mates transit could cope!!

Just think the powers that be at fuji heavy industys could have looked at those photo,s and said............
