Question Replacing the winscreen ?

Need advice here - summet hit me window on the motorway.

Nice big crack accross the drivers side.

Havr rang up my insurance - expecting to pay the £100 windscreen excess - they are expecting me to pay this ontop of the £250 excess that comes with the policy.

Is that right? Thought the whole point of the windscreen excess was to cover the windscreen against damage, not for them to charge u ontop of your normal excess.

Cheers for a very annoyed and confused blokey

Did you speak to the broker or the insurance company ?
You should only pay the windscreen excess unless you are making a claim for any bodywork damage.

Give them another ring and try to speak to someone else. You may have spoken to a newbie who does'nt know what he is on about.

Quote from hand book.

If it does need to be replaced, you wil be asked to pay the windscreen excess which is applicable under your policy. However, the balance of the cost will automatically be paid by Zurich to autoglass.

Be-careful because you have to use the Insurance companies designated windscreen company.

Is it just the windscreen that's damaged?? or is the other damage your trying to claim for??

Had my windscreen replaced on my 98 turbo 3 months ago, I did not want to use my insurers recommended windscreen people and the insurer said no problem, but I had to pay the full amount then claim back the difference between the excess (£60) and the total £300ish. Had I used their recommended ones the difference would have been sorted directly between the insurer and windscreen company.

Time to change Insurance Companies - surely they have it wrong.

I paid £50 excess last year for a replacement windscreen. Rang Direct Line, they input the details into their computer, I got a call from Auto Windscreens to arrange date and just paid the guy when he finished.

I found the number of the company that replaces at no cost to yourselves but they only cover the following areas: Colchester, Braintree, Saffon Walden, Haverhill, Cambridge, Royston, Hertford, Enfield, St. Albans, Newmarket and Bishop's Stortford.
The company is called County Windscreen Services and is in the yellow pages,
they pay your £50 excess and invoice your insurance company directly, their services include: Fully mobile service, Rear screens, Body glass,Laminated glasss repairs and 12 month guarantee on all work, I know of a couple of people who have used them with no problems, their number are 01371 811091 or 07836 283381
