Question EXHAUST ON WRONG SIDE?

Was watching some rallying on the Sky TV and noticed that the Subaru rally cars have an exhaust on the other side compared with road cars. Is this right enough or am I going mad? The road cars i.e. mine - a MY98 uk car has it on the nearside, whereas the rally cars seem to be on the offside. INTERESTING!
