Default That'll be £135 please sir

Just had an oil change service done on my classic (52,500 mile one), £135 for oil and filter and to check my tyre pressures , and to put in screen wash that it didn't need ! .I know the dealer has got overheads etc but this is a bit steep for what it is , last time I had an oil service done on our Audi (dog wagon) by Audi it was below £100 IIRC . Usually I don't moan about the cost of owning / running the Scoob becauce the grin factor says it all , but how do Subaru warrant charging this much ?

Posted on a thread that covered this last week, they are having a laugh basically.
Garages only have a “certain” amount of time per week to allocate say 50 hrs actual time times number of “mechanics”. Obviously they try and maximise the revenue from each available time slot.
Still can’t justify it though.
At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask !

OK - how about £267 for a 20K service (basically the same - but + filters + replaced brake fluid) ..... no plugs till 40K!

Main dealers are **** takers when it comes to servicing-full stop.

Although I've never really had any problems with my dealer, this has got to be one of the most annoying charges on my bill. Last time I took it for a service I deliberately filled up the washer bottle to the max thinking that this time I would escape the charge - lo and behold there it was - screen wash £2.50, the tw@ts !

I had the washer bottle top up charge on a service despite having filled the bottle that morning and not having used it since. I was told they booked out the parts before the service to the mechanic and they assume it'll need some. Got it knocked off the bill and given the poxy little sachet too.

Toyota screen wash BTW.

Thumbs up A list ?

Always provide a list of things that you don't want doing.
e.g., own oil supplied, do not change screenwash, do not rotate wheels, etc. You cannot then be charged for these tasks.

Avoid main dealers.

I was quoted £400 for a 60k service from my local dealer.
Went to a well known local garage (runs a subaru rally car and sets up other cars for rallying etc.) and got a quote of £120 for oil change, air filter, new plugs and service.

He also advised that rear discs (& pads) needed done which was NOT picked up by the dealer.

60k is a bit more than oil/air filter/plugs

Also gearbox/diff oil, fuel filter, coil pack insulators and probably some other things IIRC
