Cat. B on the HPi register, doesn't that mean well mashed up?

I thought cat A and B was total write-off and shouldn't be put back onto the road! Compared to cat C and D which are uneconomical repairs and are perfectly OK to go back on the road if repaired correctly.
Looks a bit dodgy to me, especially considering someone's already bid £6k for a cat-B 97 Scoob Turbo

Thats what I was thinking, A = Burnt out/flat as a pan cake, B = part burnt out, almost flat as a pan cake...

cat b is break for parts only and can only be sold to an authorised salvage yard. all parts can be used but the chassis number is no longer valid. therefore the car cannot be returned to the road. the yard should not sell the car shell if it has a cat b rating.

I put a deposit on a W reg scoob not so long ago, 32k miles full prodrive etc did an HPI check next day it had been in a CATD acident AND a CATB which is a total loss write off and the car should have been crushed. never got my deposit back when I found out
