insurance again

Our Admiral insurance has just gone up by about 27 percent. Before I re-new is

a) this an average increase this year! (they
claim all companies are upping by similar)

b) there another company that can beat 540 quid. It's a 94 5dr turbo, rural, garaged,
7 years NCD, NO alarm (but immoboliser),
two drivers (main driver over 35, other
33), no mods save 15->16 inch wheels.

Tried Privilege and Greenlight but they didn't want to know after they found out no
Thatch 1/2 alarm.

TTry NFU - see Insurance threads for Tel No. I sent a client to them today and they saved 250 squids and got protection as well....tho not really sure what the protection was???

keep shopping around. go through all the companies advertising in the back of evo, grab a friendly broker or grab a broker and blackmail him with pictures of him and the donkey.

for a (slightly modified) prodrive my97, 4 years NCB, nil points, rural, concealed off-road parked, two drivers over 30, immobled and thatched. admiral wanted to jack mine to £1,400 from £1,100 after moving *out* of london.

best i could get from bennetts was £1,055. it's a scandal. expect to have compulsory DNA testing for the heavy-right-foot gene.

I insured my UK MY00 through NFU, and I haven't claimed yet, but they have been a superb company so far.

I got protected NCB on a 5 year company scheme, and also no increase for Scoobysport exhaust, nor brake bracket.

They quoted me various options depending on how much excess I wanted and were always helpful and gave good advice.

Also have said they will cover me for the airfield day on 24/7 :^)

I have never heard of NFU - I assume that its not the National Farmers Union??? farmers gone into insurance??? they do like Scoobys dont they ha ha ha

Admiral are not alone ! Norwich Union wanted to put mine up 30%.
NFU would not insure me fullly comp as I live in Newcastle upon Tyne, however, Churchills were the cheapest by far !

In my opinion insurance companies rely on peoples' inertia when it comes to renewal time so they hoike the renewal up.

I always phone around at renewal time and nearly always end up changing, quite often going full circle.

So get on that phone...

Slightly off thead but just got off the phone to my motorcycle insurer, who as an exception to the rule is normally the cheapest, having questioned the renewal premium and saved £200! Very helpful person spotted a few things that would help e.g. bike was down as non-garaged which it is now, value 6500 now only 4000, job was down as software developer, now a project manager (my how I've gone up in the world!) etc etc.

So I guess another thing to check is their details are up-to-date i.e. car value, job status, marital status, security devices etc. etc.

For what it's worth Direct Line are my current cheapest, though I had companies that I would normally expect to be cheaper for a high group car struggle cos I had a prang last year, even tho it wasn't my fault - and I've still got still full protected NCD.

NFU is indeed the farmer's lot. A scoob is a 4wd farm owner's/manager's type vehicle & is looked on accordingly ( shhh ). Please look at 3rd post for number.

Thanks for the NFU (mutual) recommendation.

I phoned the general 0800 316 4661 number.

Got two quotes 358 UKP (250 UKP excess)
or 418 UKP (100 UKP excess)

I know maybe I shouldn't have minded
my renewal quote cf what others might be paying but the 28 percent hike did seem
un-justified.

Here's hoping the written quote lives up to the verbal one.

Still I could end up driving quite fast if I now have to wear wellies!!

NFU your having a laugh

Admiral have bumped mine to just under a grand, this year. 34, 1 years no claims etc.

NFU wanted just over 2.5 grand for the same type of cover.

I agree with simes, direct line, i live in manchester (eeek!! car crime capital of europe!!!) 31 yrs old full ncb, 4 accidents, should all be non fault but they got me 2 + 2
all they wanted was a tracking device fitted, (one accident still outstanding) 985 with protection, parked on drive, everyone else wanted 1400 quid!! robbing gits!!!

A friend of mine when presented with a similar insurance hike phoned up the company's normal sales line and got them to quote on his particulars as if new business and guess what, it came out £160 cheaper on a £550 renewal offer! Like Simes mentioned above I always ring round and often go back to an old insurer.

At the moment with Eagle Star Direct £920 for UK MY95 no mods with full protected NCB, 25 yrs old with 24 yrs other half on policy too!!

It pays to change without a doubt.
