Help finding out month/year of manufacture

Is there anyway I can find out the exact month/year of manufacture of my classic impreza from the chassis number?

10th digit is the clue ; 1997 = v, 1998 = w, 1999 = x, 2000 = y

Cheers Alan, but the chassis number I have is only 8 digits long, and begins: GC8-......

Does anyone else have any ideas??
