Default cats in the up ?

has anyone replaced or looked at the up pipe on the 03 model wrx. ?

I was of the understanding there are 2 cats in the 03 wrx, one in the down pipe, one in a "cat pipe" and a resonator in the centre section.

Ive just been told by a supplier there is also one in the up pipe. can anyone confirm this, is it worth replacing if there is a cat in there. heard its a bit of a mare to fit !!!.

STI's are supposedly different and do not have a cat in the up-pipe. so if anyone has looked at the 03 wrx in more detail would love to know for sure either way.

cheers

Peter

madmark, your 03 wrx had a cat in the uppipe ?.

Did a search, GreaseMonkey concluded the 01/02 cars have a cat in the uppipe, this changed for the 03 model and the newer cars do not have a cat, but not sure if he was reffering to STI's only.

But would like to know for sure.

approx 10bhp ish? will breath nice without it though.

not easy to fit. intercoller off, downpipe off, release engine mounts and lift engine slightly. either that or you can come at it from the top, but you'd have to remove the turbo.

its a pig of a job whichever way you approach it
