Default Please tell me you're running costs

Chaps,

I'm considering an Imprezza turbo 5 door around 98'. I was thinking of a standard unmodified car and don't intend doing much to it.

Problem is that I've just found out the insurance is £700/annum more than my 325.

I'm trying to guage other running costs.

If you have a 1996-2000 Scoob, can you please tell me roughly how much your car costs per year for servicing, tyres, parts and repairs.

it costs a lot of money, and you will probably find that most owners dont want to work it all out for fear of a heart attack

I'll start with tyres -

You need to budget for a full set every 15,000. Sure you may get more out of them but budget for a set at 15,000 and you wont be too far off.

I agree with StickyMicky.
It costs an awful lot. Petrol bill for one thing. Expect to get about 21mpg but less if your just popping about town. Depends how you drive of coarse...but if you have a car like this your not going to poddle about at 56.6 mph
Servicing is every 7000 mls. Interim service for Oil and filter change about £90 and next service about £400.

But your love the car!

Tyres about £90ish a corner (and last longer than 15,000), petrol about 26 mpg , minor service about £100ish , major about £400 odd , insurance about £550 fully comp

Rough running costs per month for my MY99 UK RB5:-

Insurance - £60 (mines £700)
Fuel - £180 (full tank per week)
Tyres - £35 (£400 per set of 4)
Servicing (assuming one small £150 & one large £400) - £50
TAX & MOT - £15
Total £340

No repayments, so add all this to your loan/HP.
Depreciation is a also a cost, but that all depends on model, year, price paid, etc..

As you can see, fuel is the BIG hitter. Feckin government

I've had no unforseen expenses, but I've spent a bit on mods. Biggest hitters will be tyres, major services and brake discs/pads. The latter is expensive for Subaru OE, so your better getting better quality 3rd-party parts.

Stefan

P.S. I've no regrets

Expensive, thats for sure

Insurance £ 580.00 a year
Petrol 23 to the gallon average
Servicing £ 400.00-£600.00 a year depending on where the bigger ones fall
Tax/Mot as per most cars really.
Tyres £ 330.00 for a set of Toyo's, expect them to last at least 15k

They are generally reliable but 6 monthly/6000 mile servicing gets expensive after a while, well worth it though, love mine, its also a M98 5dr.

As StickyMickey says, if you add it all up it will scare you, especially when you factor depreciation in, I have been considering selling mine for a while, when I added it all up and compared it to a boring MPV we will end up buying I was staggered at the difference!!!

Still its been worth it for the fun factor!!!

Cheers
