Default P1 - What does the P stand for?

Argument with wife. I say it stands for Prodrive 1, she says Position 1 - who's right?

Surely it stands for everything, and yet nothing?

Sorry I'll save my attempts at being "deep" for after the pub closes.

This link:

http://www.gm-indonesia.com/eng/suba...ry_subaru.html

may give some clue as to what P1 might stand for - the first car Fuji Heavy Industries built, in 1954, was called the "P-1" (Prototype One, very imaginative) - perhaps Prodrive chose to pay homage to this very vehicle???

Position 1 i think. It came when they kept on losing comparitive tests in the motoring mags to the evo which was hardly suprising as they were comparing a 20k 200 bhp car against a 30k 280 bhp car!Even then it only just lost

Extract from Subaru Global Web Site:

The first president of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), Kenji Kita, had some definite opinions on the subject of automobiles. "If you're going to build a car, build a full-fledged car." "Japanese cars should have Japanese names." Mr. Kita was ardent about producing passenger cars and was the most passionate of all about the 1954 prototype of the Company's first passenger car, the P-1.

Mr. Kita canvassed the Company for suggestions about naming the P-1, but none of the proposals were appealing. In the end, Mr. Kita gave the car a beautiful Japanese name that he had been quietly cherishing in his heart --- Subaru.

I don’t know how old is this thread.
I am the designer hired by Mr. David Richards and worked under David Lapeworth together with Ian Perry ( marketing) to design the first prototype of a road legal racing car. I came up with the name P1. I didn’t want to use the Subaru badge or any labels on the car apart from the P1. P was for: Prodrive, prototype, performance , first place, everyone said that the P is not familiar like GTI or GT etc. I said that one day it will be and I proved it was correct.
I have photos of the development stages, report and other leftovers if someone is interested to see.

I'm confused, what prototype is this? I think the thread was directed to the Impreza P1? I've seen the P2 Prototype but never heard of a P1 Prototype.
