ECU Reseting
3 questions guys.
1. I was told recently that if you were to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 1/2 an hour or so, and after reconnecting were to fill the car up with 5 big blokes and a bootfull of sand and cement and drive laboriously up a large hill, that the 1st thing the ECU learns is that this car is gonna have a hard life and sets itself up for it. Then by removing all the artificial weight, the car would run more powerfully for a while, until the map re-adjusted itself. It all sounded plausible to a degree, or is this a Scooby urban legend?
2. Is reseting the ECU recommended, say annually? If so, should/could/do Subaru make it part of the annual service?
3. Does disconnecting the battery for 1/2 an hour affect the Tracker, as I seem to recall reading that it should be checked if the power is to be disconnected for an amount of time ?

Honda perform an ecu reset when ever they have the wifes car for a service... apparantly because if you get a poor batch of fuel, the ecu adjusts to give the best performance... but is not to good at going the other way if you then get ok fuel... its easy to do,, just pull the appropriate fuse for 10 secs...
But if we had saabs... the have well cool ecu,s that adjust to what ever fuel you put in.... they actually state in the hand book.... use unleaded.. the apc is set up for unleaded.... but... if you want a performance boost...use leaded fuel....
it makes you laugh.. with all the technology available today.. no one has come up with a system thats as good as the saab apc.....

I've got a classic (MY95) and this works just fine for me...

Dave mate - my belief was that for MY01 onwards, the ECU dynamically adjusted on a continual basis, and therefore an ECU reset was unnecessary, unless you were trying to eradicate a fault code. In this respect, I believe they differ from the MY00 and earlier ECU.
No doubt GM or someone will tell me otherwise.

you cant reset the ECU yourself on MY01 onwards cars, unless you have a secs unit, select monitor etc
just nip up to well lane if you need it resetting, I've been a few times and they haven't charged me
Failing that take it to the dealer you got it from.
I was told by well lane to drive it fairly hard after a reset ,similar to how you mentioned above
